2. What is Discovery Elementary?
A public program in the SSD which is available to all
students free of charge, regardless of catchment area.
Established in 1973 by staff and parents
Early development of school was based on the principles
of Adlerian Psychology and the qualities needed for a
democratic society.

Provide support through
Encouragement meetings
Offer positive choices and
solutions to problems
• Correct misbehaviour while
respecting the child
• Facilitate independence,

9. Discovery and Homework
Discovery believes that homework is work to be
accomplished at home, not school work.
Instead of assigning traditional homework, students
and their families are encouraged to discover
learning opportunities on their own, such as theme-
related research or visits to the library.
