3. ABC’s of Giving Bible Studies
• A. Always present Jesus first!
– The very first and the most important thing is to melt and subdue
the soul by presenting our Lord Jesus Christ as the sinbearer,
the sin-pardoning Saviour, making the gospel as clear as
possible (EVp.264).The wonderful love of Christ will melt and
subdue hearts, when the mere reiteration of doctrines would
accomplish nothing (DAp.826).
• B. Reveal truth gradually.
– The path of the just is like the shining sun, that shines ever
brighter unto the perfect day (Proverbs 4:18). I still have many
things to say to you, but you cannot bear them now (John 16:12).
• C. Make regular appeals.
– At the close of every meeting [and Bible study], decisions should
be called for (T6p.64)

• Appeal to the heart.
– "Our Saviour's power was not in a strong array of sharp words
that would pierce through the very soul; it was His gentleness
and His plain, unassuming manners that made Him a conqueror
of hearts." Testimonies, volume 3, page 477.
• Deal with things you can agree upon at first. Don't shake the
foundation people have. Break down prejudice. Evangelism, p. 201
– "Agree with the people on every point where you can
consistently do so. Let them see that you love their souls, and
want to be in harmony with them as far as possible."
Evangelism, page 141
• Use Illustrations, personal experiences, your own or that of others,
that relate to the subject.
• Stick to topic you are presenting.
7. Conducting Bible Studies
• Leave something to review while you are not present to answer
questions or influence thoughts.
• Do not be shocked or condemn people for faults, passions, etc.
– "It was a continual pain to Christ to be brought into contact with
enmity, depravity, and impurity; but never did He utter one
expression to show that His sensibilities were shocked or His
refined tastes offended. Whatever the evil habits, the strong
prejudices, or the overbearing passions of human beings, He
met them all with pitying tenderness." Ministry of Healing, page
165.
8. Conducting Bible Studies
• If you don't know the answer to something, say so.
–You are also a learner in Christ. Tell them you will find the answer and bring
it back to them.
• Use only Scripture - Resist the temptation to use Spirit of Prophecy
• Be optimistic don't think of failure.
– "But when we give ourselves wholly to God and in our work follow His
directions, He makes Himself responsible for its accomplishment. He
would not have us conjecture as to the success of our honest endeavors.
Not once should we even think of failure. We are to cooperate with One
who knows no failure.
