An earthquake is caused by the abrupt movement of tectonic plates along a fault line in the earth's crust. Earthquakes can result in ground shaking, soil liquefaction, landslides, fissures, avalanches, fires, and tsunamis. On July 27, 2022, a 7.0 magnitude earthquake struck Luzon Island in the Philippines. The earthquake killed 11 people, injured 615, and damaged or destroyed at least 35,798 homes, schools and other structures, resulting in 1.88 billion Philippine pesos worth of damage.
