2. Mark Romanek: Red Hot Chilli
Peppers-Can’t Stop
This video is one of the most intriguing due to the disjuncture
There was no theme and it didn’t have a deep symbolism however it was
abstract and draws you in
Although it is simple the composition (colours) is interesting, with bright
colours all complimenting each other
You can watch it without having to follow a narrative which is due to
disjuncture whereas some videos you have to concentrate and take in
everything that happens
3. Michael Gondry: Bjork- Human
Behaviour
There is a slight narrative for example in the lyrics when it says “there is
definitely, definitely, definitely no logic” this is narrative as there is no logic in
this video
However there is a genuine message in the song trying to convey how
society nowadays is destructive and is destroying nature
It is also trying to show Bjork being taken out her normal environment and
being put in the animals shoes, and she is now being able to appreciate both
sides
Mise- en- scene is strange and isn’t a realistic projection of real life as we
know it
4. Spike Jonze: Fatboy Slim- Praise
you
Once again they use disjuncture, as you don’t need to follow any narrative
The reason it is good is because the song doesn’t have too much narrative
and it isn’t hard to follow- you can simply sit back and relax
It is a handheld shot throughout and this backs up the point of realism that is
projected
It is almost like raw footage in the respect it doesn’t look edited or
manipulated in almost any sense
It doesn't have any close-up or lip syncing which is unique as the majority of
music videos will have this, which is what makes this video so interesting
