4. Use of Building Information Models in design and graphics
Increased use of digital information
Analytics big data etc
Drones cloud point surveys
Pockets of use and innovation
Not joined up
Very little in the supply chain
Current Landscape
5. A lot of theory not much practice
Emerging standards PAS 1192, ISO 16950
Lots of approaches lots of alternatives
Where is the magic bullet
Piecing together the jigsaw
Look at UK and Overseas
Current Landscape 2
6. Where can we help and join up
Product information
Product identification
Processes to join up the supply chain
Competence
In the right place for the future industry
CPA Approach

Post Grenfell reforms
Hackitt review calls for ‘golden thread’ of information
New regulations and regulatory framework
Raising the bar and culture change
Taking things forward
10. Currently
Connections with other areas
Then we have a structure that allows failure even if we can agree
what is correct or what is compliant who is going to pick up failure
and who is going to make sure it is put right?
Very often none of the above. Therefore there is common
acceptance that if its about right or even there are no complaints it’s
ok.
But the regs are there for a reason and if that is to protect
life and make it safe we are bound to be heading for trouble.
This can only be achieved with full digitalsiation
11. Regulations and standards
How did we get to this position?
Over the last few decades a gradual erosion of standards
Design and build where responsibility is devolved and fragmented
Designers losing site involvement and therefore experience
Trades where the is concern only for ‘my’ work
Digital processes allow this to be rolled back and reinvented
12. The Building Safety Programme
Verification required
Competence raised
Ensure performance delivered
Ensure safe maintenance guaranteed
Complete digital record
Efficiency drives cost savings as well
Regulations
13. Next …..
Duty holders with personal responsibility
Regulations that require delivery performance and proof
Digital records of everything
A required change to what is acceptable and what is not
Potential exclusion for those not willing to comply
This will not be easy or simple
XXXXXXXX
14. However this is essential for the future of the industry
We need to regain that trust lost with Grenfell
To build buildings that are safe and make people feel safe
That needs digital systems and is…..
a no brainer
Conclusion
