2. Definition and uses.
• The word digital is a term broadly used to define most things that operate
electronically. Digital Platforms can therefore be described as
environments that allow or enhance the use of digital technology.
• These platforms are generally used to transfer, receive, manipulate, store
or view digital media.
• Digital media referrers to data, either audio or visual, which is
created, transferred or manipulated on a digital platform.
• For instance, an example of digital media is an email and if this is read on
a tablet or a personal computer, then that becomes the platform for this
particular media.
3. Digital Platforms as used in marketing.
• Perhaps the greatest advantage of using digital media for internet or
general marketing, is the increased amount of flexibility that it allows.
• Digital platforms permit the use of not only text, but graphics and videos
which have been proven to resonate in a more positive way with targeted
audiences.
• The creation of digital media and its subsequent distribution to the
audience, is also vastly improved when various platforms are used. For
instance, if a video promoting a certain product is created, it can be
distributed to hundreds or even thousands of interested parties , in a
matter of minutes.
• Geographic constraints of marketing are also broken down since digital
platforms allow various forms of media to be broadcast globally via the
internet.
4. Utilizing Digital Platforms.
• Currently, digital media platforms are almost impossible to avoid, this
makes them an effective tool for conveying all sorts of messages.
• However, if not used strategically, their effectiveness can be greatly
diminished and it is therefore very important to have a strategic plan
before embarking on the use of digital media platforms for purposes of
marketing.
