Colorectal cancer (CRC) in India ranks amongst the lowest in comparison to most parts of the world. However, the sheer population of the country and increasing urbanization, coupled with greater awareness and scope of detection, has resulted in a gradual increase in numbers to the point that it ranks amongst the commonest cancers in India. This review discusses the relevance of specialization in CRC surgery in India and also important aspects of multidisciplinary care such as advances in chemotherapy and radiotherapy. This article also deals specifically with the problem of rectal cancer in young Indians. Furthermore, the impact of minimal access CRC surgery and cutting edge issues in CRC surgery such as approach to complete responders after neo-adjuvant treatment in rectal cancer, concepts in sphincter preservation, and dealing with metastatic CRC are also addressed. Lastly, modern molecular biology with a clinical relevance and modern surgical approaches such as TEMS and TAMIS are also discussed.

The guide does not extend into the pathway beyond the diagnostic testing stage or include endoscopy pathways.
This NHS Improvement document has been written to support diagnostic imaging teams, and to help them to understand the best practice pathways for GP direct access to diagnostic imaging tests for suspected cancer.
Towards the Automated Calculation of Clinical Quality Indicators
The document presents a method for automatically calculating clinical quality indicators by formalizing them as SPARQL queries. It describes a 7-step method to translate indicators into queries, tests the method on 4 indicators, and finds it can formalize most constructs with acceptable runtimes. However, one indicator cannot be fully expressed in SPARQL. The authors conclude the method works for a proof of concept but needs more indicators and real data to fully evaluate it.

Congenital heart disease refers to a range of birth defects that affect the normal functioning of the heart. It is present from birth and affects approximately 1 in 100 babies born in the UK. While the cause is often unknown, risks include genetic disorders like Down's syndrome, certain maternal infections or medications during pregnancy, smoking, drinking, or poorly controlled diabetes. Symptoms in babies and children may include rapid heartbeat, rapid breathing, swelling, fatigue, or blue skin/lips. There are many types of congenital heart defects such as holes between chambers, narrow arteries, or abnormal positioning of valves and arteries.
Celiac disease
Celiac disease is a lifelong autoimmune disorder triggered by ingesting gluten, which is found in wheat, rye, and barley. It damages the villi of the small intestine and affects absorption of nutrients. It can present with classic gastrointestinal symptoms like diarrhea or weight loss, or with atypical symptoms involving the skin, bones, nerves, or liver enzymes. It is diagnosed through serology tests detecting antibodies and confirmed with small intestine biopsy showing villous flattening. Treatment is a lifelong gluten-free diet, while undiagnosed or untreated celiac disease can increase risk of intestinal cancers.
