Steps
Do you want to learn to write good essays and impress your teachers? This
is the right place!! You should be aware that there are 3 important steps when
writing an essay. Those are:
Pre-writing Process
This is the first step in writing your essay. Pre-writing is basically
the preparation and organization of your thoughts or ideas. Here is a
guide to successfully complete this step.
Select the topic
Aks questions
First, think about what you would like to write in your
essay, or if it is a topic given by the teacher, think about
a specific point to write.
Once you have the topic for your essay, ask yourself
questions about what you know about it, what you need
to know, why it is important, what points are relevant,
and so on.
Purpose
Audience
Graphic organizers
Here you have to think about who will read your essay:
children, adolescents, adults, etc. This is important
because you must adapt the vocabulary you use so that
your essay is understood correctly by your audience.
This is an important point, it is about the intention with
which you write your essay: to inform, to persuade, to
explain, to describe, to entertain, etc.
As the last instruction, use some kind of graphic
organizer. These will help you organize your ideas, the
way you will connect your concepts and the structure of
your essay.
When you have finished this step and you are clear on what to write and how to write
it, then continue to step two.
Graphic organizers
During Writing Process
When you have all the ideas collected, start drafting or writing your
essay. Follow your previous notes determined on stage 1, but don’t
worry to change some of them when is needed. In this step, you should
be getting ideas on your paper, organizing the information logically, and
giving details and structure for your audience.
Paraphrase and Summary
When you have your findings for your work, write
them with your own words to personalize your
essay. Summarize the main ideas to get a precise
and focused text on the topic.
Write without worry
Since you are writing yourself to understand
your ideas, write the paragraphs or sentences
even if they are not correct. You will have the
opportunity to edit it and make the corrections.
Drafting takes time
The time you spend writing your essay is
extremely important. When you are drafting
you will discover new ideas, so you need time
to incorporate into your plan.
Read it again
Reading your essay many times helps to
organize it better and identify the mistakes
made. If possible, send your essay to your
friends for different opinions and advices.
1. EDITING
Editing means that you are going to
check the grammatical part of your
draft such as spelling and punctuation,
as well as the organization and function
of each word.
This consists of checking everything written
from the beginning to the end. See if you
need to add any idea, word, or phrase,
remove or even move it from its position to
make it easier to understand the content.
2. REVISING
When you have done these little steps, then you can say that your
essay is ready.
