The document discusses several music video ideas that the author initially considered, including recreating elements of The Weeknd's "Starboy" video or Chromatics' "Running Up That Hill." However, the author's group ultimately decided to create a music video for Jake Bugg's "Love Hope and Misery." They chose this indie rock song because they feel they can construct an effective story line highlighting the genre's characteristics. The narrative will focus on the destruction of love to engage viewers and mirror other rock music videos. Bon Jovi's "Always" provides an example narrative that matches what the group wants to achieve.

Creating a music video narrative
1.
2. Originally there were many Ideas I wanted to go for.
I wanted to create a music video like The Weeknd’s Starboy as I
love the artistry in the video and the ideas that went into it, such as
the red and blue colour scheme. Two conflicting colours that give
different meanings. Most in particular is the way they present The
Weeknd and the amount of modest power he is given through use
of good direction on facial expressions and the slow but
specific/focused pans/closeups/pull focus’s, all intentional shots
with a purpose for the viewer. I also thought about going a totally
different way and going with Electropop with the Chromatics-
Running Up That Hill. There's no proper music video however I
like the way the music is delivered to the listener. It's not forced
and it would've given me plenty of time to have thoughts well
thought out shots. However It would of been hard justifying how
there would be a successful market and mainly because like I said
it's quite a laid back song so there's not much build up to that big
moment everyone loves in a song. Bruno Mars- Gorilla music
video directed by Cameron Duddy is probably going to be one of
my biggest Inspirations camera work wise and maybe even
lighting. The protectiveness created shocked the world and they
ate it up. Gorilla was a highly successful song along with a well
directed film and music video. Duddy captured and encouraged all
the the sexuliseation of both the characters masculinly and
femaninly. The passion between these two characters is almost
real. Extreme closeups of sweat coming of Bruno’s face and the
intense shaky cam when they are together in the limo all made me
want to have these powerful effects within my video. All these
ideas will hopfull help me in my final product.
3. We as a group have already come to the
decision to create the music video using
Jake bugg’s song Love Hope and misery.
We are doing this because we feel and
especially I believe we can construct a
powerful and effective story line that
holds our chosen genre characteristics.
We are sticking with Indie rock because
we will get the most creativity out of it
but also we may add another genre to
maximize audience viewings and help
justify who and how many people we
could sell this to.

So all we need to now is come up with a
compelling narrative. Research is pretty
much finished with. We’ve discussed it
and we have all agreed that the
narrative needs to be the destruction of
love. We have gone with this because
one it makes viewers want to watch
again and also because it is very
common place in rock music video’s
such as Guns N Roses - Don’t Cry and
The Killers Miss Atomic Bomb. The indie
itself just going to be show threw
stylized camera angles and the music
itself, with an artist who couldn't be
more Indie.
5. Jake Bugg has an underdog upbringing
to fame that the majority can relate to
and look up to with hope of a better
life. When he was first starting out he
wasn't signed to anyone and made his
own way up. His music translates into
Indie genres and he has that old
50s/70s vibe about him that not many
people can pull off and still grap the
attention of a young audience. So he is
unique. The song we picked is hopefully
going to be perfect for what we want to
achieve.

I'm using Bon Jovi’s - Always music
video because I feel that the narrative
constructed is pretty much exactly what
we are going for.
I've done a video of Jake Bugg’s - Love
Hope and Misery and mixed it over Bon
Jovi’s - Always to see if it would work
and also get a look of what the final
product would look like. I showed it to
the group and they liked it so now all
we need is that narrative.
