Presentation to the Africa All Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) from David Kennedy, Director General for Economic Development, DFID at a Africa APPG panel event in parliament (Developing sustainable & accessible energy infrastructure in Africa) exploring the opportunities and challenges in mobilising private sector capital for sustainable and accessible energy infrastructure in Africa and the best policy approaches to support African led renewable energy initiatives. David Kennedy was appointed as the UK Department for International Development’s first Director General for Economic Development in June 2014. He has worked on development finance, strategy and investment at the World Bank and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, he was most recently Chief Executive of the Committee on Climate Change, an independent advisory body to the UK Government and Devolved Administrations.
