Java 8 is coming. It is happening right here. Developers of your favorite Java IDE are participating in shaping this long awaited milestone for the Java ecosystem: On time with the GA of Java 8, JDT will ship its first release with support for developing in Java 8.
If you have a basic understanding of the new features in Java 8, come here and learn how the JDT team mastered the challenges of lifting the Eclipse Java IDE to the next language version.
The main focus of this talk will be on lambda expressions, touching also some changes in the libraries that leverage lambda expressions. We will expose some examples demonstrating the complexity of the language and mention some caveats which should help you avoid some unpleasent surprises.

Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies such as Generative AI, Image Generators and Large Language Models have had a dramatic impact on teaching, learning and assessment over the past 18 months. The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction.
This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. In contrast, not engaging strategically with Generative AI poses risks, including falling behind peers, missed opportunities and failing to ensure our graduates remain employable. The rapid evolution of AI technologies necessitates a proactive and strategic approach if we are to remain relevant.

iLAB OVERVIEW
Scenario and Summary
The purpose of the iLab exercises is to help the
student acquire skills in developing programs that
involve the use of the stack and the queue data
structures.
Deliverables
There are six exercises in this iLab, although not
all of them will be required for submission. Be
sure to read the following instructions carefully.
Exercises 1 and 4: No submissions are required.
2. Create a folder and name it Week 3 iLab. Inside
this folder, create the subfolders Ex2, Ex3, Ex5, and
Ex6. Place the solution to each of the four exercises
required for submission in the corresponding
subfolder. Compress the folder Week 3 iLab using
a program like WinZip, and drop the resulting
zipped folder into the Dropbox.
Note that Exercises 2, 3, 5, and 6 require software
development. Place only .java files in the
corresponding folders. Do not submit the .class
files or other files or folders that are generated by
the IDE.

Stack Class". Compile the project, run it, and
review the code that is given carefully. This code
tests the stack class provided in the lecture.

Complete Project 2 at the end of Chapter 5 in our
textbook: Write a Java program that uses a stack to
test whether an input string is a palindrome.
Exercise 11 defines "palindrome" and asks you to
describe a solution to this problem. As you can see,
you will need to read Exercise 11 to find the
meaning of palindrome.
To implement the solution to this problem, use the
stack of characters from the previous exercises (1
and 2).
