This document discusses the importance of developing a daily devotional life centered around spending time with God through prayer and reading the Bible. It recommends starting the day with devotionals to invite God into your day and make Him your top priority. Specific tips provided include reading from the Old Testament, New Testament, Psalms and Proverbs daily and writing down what God is speaking, promising, commanding, warning, and applying to your life. Benefits mentioned are that your life, attitude, and direction will be positively changed as God transforms you through His Word.
2. Joshua 1:8 “This Book of the Law shall
not depart out of your mouth, but you
shall meditate on it day and night, that
you may observe {and} do according to
all that is written in it. For then you
shall make your way prosperous, and
then you shall deal wisely {and} have
good success.”
3. DEVOTION means:
• An act of prayer or private worship.
• A time we spend with God.
• Devotional life centers you on God.
4. Importance of Devotional Life
Why we do devotionals?
We need God’s Word daily. “Man shall
not live {and} be upheld {and} sustained
by bread alone, but by every word that
comes forth from the mouth of God.”
Matthew 4:4
5. • Dependency on God. “Lean on, trust in,
{and} be confident in the Lord with all your
heart {and} mind and do not rely on your
own insight {or} understanding. In all your
ways know, recognize, {and} acknowledge
Him, and He will direct {and} make straight
{and} plain your paths.” Proverbs 3:5-6
To improve our relationship with
God, ensuring we are inside His will
every day. This is to know His will
in our life
6. To draw closer to God. God longs to hear
our voices. Talk to Him like you would to a
close friend. Treat Him as the most
important person in your life. Devotional life
makes you grow in Christ. It prevents us
from being stagnant. There will be times
that we don’t want to pray or read.
Regardless how it feels, we must have our
devotion.
7. When we do devotional
We do devotionals first thing in the morning.
Primary way to invite God into our day. It is a
way to make sure He is our top priority
before family, work, or anything. God must
be our first.
8. We put God first.
“But seek (aim at and strive after) first of
all His kingdom and His righteousness
(His way of doing and being right), and
then all these things taken together will
be given you besides.” Matthew 6:33
9. We must put on our armor before the
battle
• Eph 6:10 In conclusion, be strong in the
Lord [be empowered through your union
with Him]; draw your strength from Him
[that strength which His boundless might
provides].11 Put on God's whole armor [the
armor of a heavy-armed soldier
which God supplies], that you may
be able successfully to stand up
against [all] the strategies {and} the
deceits of the devil.
10. Jesus sought the Lord early in the
morning.
Mark 1:35 “And in the morning, long before
daylight, He got up and went out to a
deserted place, and there He prayed.”
11. How do we do devotionals?
Start by prayer and worship
Read from the Old Testament, New
Testament, a Psalm and a Proverb
We look for what the Lord is speaking to
us (Rhema Word)
12. We write down 5 things that we get from
scripture:
Message (what is the Lord speaking to me)
Promise (what is the Lord promising?)
Command (what is the Lord telling me to do)
Warning (what is the Lord cautioning me
about)
Application (how can I apply this word
practically to my life)
13. • What you have learned and apply it into
your life
We learn also by doing and sharing. What we
have been given is usually not meant for us
solely, it is a gift that keeps on giving as we, in
turn, help others! A willing heart, a teachable
spirit, the willingness and availability to share
are essential for a disciple of our Lord! Freely
we received, freely give! Others may benefit
from what you have learned from the
Lord.
14. BENEFITS OF DOING YOUR DEVOTIONS
• Your life will change.
• Your attitude will change.
• You will be pointed in the right direction.
• The Bible will break through your self-will
and deceptions, including sins,
temptations, and rationalizations, because
the Bible is the voice of God.
•
15. Make devotion a PRIORITY. Let Christ
transform you through His Word.
If we love Jesus, we will spend more time
to know Him more.
