Preliminary research was conducted in Uganda to assess the feasibility of using an electronic data collection device (Device X). The researcher visited several health clinics in and around Kampala over 12 days. Key findings included:
1) The need for a weatherproof and durable casing able to withstand harsh environments.
2) The device should support the main languages in Uganda: English, Swahili, Luganda, and Runyakitara.
3) Power options like solar charging and wall chargers would be needed given limitations in some clinics.
4) The device could efficiently digitize significant amounts of text and numeric patient data currently recorded by hand.
