Open Source Web Content Management Technologies for LibrariesAnil Mishra
This document provides an agenda and overview for an open source web content management technologies pre-conference tutorial focused on libraries. The agenda covers topics including the current information landscape, open source overview, categories of open source software for libraries, and several specific open source digital library systems and content management platforms. An overview of each topic is provided along with considerations around selecting and implementing open source solutions for libraries.
This tutorial, given at CALIBER 2009 at Pondicherry University, aims at portraying the unlimited potential of a select set of Web based applications for libraries and information centers in a real world perspective by trying out open source solutions. It attempts to unleash and demystify the plethora of features and functionalities of some of the popular library management, digital library as well as OA Archive/Harvester applications such as KOHA, Greenstone, DSpace, OAI Harvester, Drupal etc..
TING.concept is a framework for integrating library services in the digital age. It aims to provide relevant content, support user interactions and workflows, and add value through personalized experiences and context. The framework focuses on content, interaction and context through a distributed model that integrates systems and indexes using APIs and web services. A proof of concept was launched in 2010 integrating content from various sources and libraries in Denmark. The TING.concept community promotes collaboration, innovation and sharing through open source development. Current work involves expanding partnerships and implementations.
This is a presentation delivered at the STC 2012 conference in Chicago. This presentation was intended to serve as an introduction but it did not pull any punches when it came to addressing the complex concepts involved.

This document discusses the role of archives in promoting social justice. It begins by defining social justice and examining how archives can preserve marginalized histories. Several works are discussed that advocate for archives to be more accountable and collect materials from disadvantaged groups. The document then focuses on South Africa's Truth and Reconciliation Commission, which collected oral histories to document apartheid due to widespread document destruction. However, the Commission faced criticisms for its top-down approach. While archives have potential for activism, efforts can also overlook complexities and fail to respect diverse traditions. Archives must examine their own societies critically to fully promote justice.

An examination of the emerging technologies that are expected to have a large impact in the museum world during the coming five years. Looking at the 2010 and 2011 Museum Edition of the Horizon Report. I give insights into which of these technologies I think are best suited to Arkansas museums given key trends and significant challenges.
The document summarizes key points from a presentation on developing principles to guide the long-term management and preservation of digital heritage collections. It discusses the need to plan for hundreds of years into the future when making decisions around digitization. Examples of proposed principles include selecting standards to enhance interoperability, embedding semantics and context into digitized objects, engaging communities as custodians of heritage, and accounting for diversity in digital repositories. The document concludes by stating that universal principles should guide strategies and decisions in a way that is timeless.

Digital heritage tools in Ireland - a review (Sharon Webb & Aileen O'Carroll)dri_ireland
Presented at Cultural Heritage, Creative Tools & Archives, National Museum of Denmark, Copenhagen (26-27 June 2013)
This paper reviews the user tools currently in use by Irish Cultural Heritage organisations. We highlight that key challenges for those providing user tools are associated with issues of preservation and sustainability of digital tools, and argue that for cultural heritage organisations the provision of digital tools is as important as providing access to the digital content stored, harvested and aggregated. This review draws on qualitative interviews carried out by the Digital Repository of Ireland (DRI) in order to inform requirements specifications, policy statements, user guidelines and best practices.
Sharing 3D Cultural Heritage: Standards and metadataCARARE
This document discusses standards and metadata for sharing 3D cultural heritage content. It notes that 3D cultural heritage assets vary in size and scale, and digitization uses vary from conservation to tourism. There is a lack of international standards for 3D cultural heritage, though there are industry standards and best practices. High quality metadata is important for understanding 3D content, discovery, and preservation/reuse, yet metadata for 3D is often minimal. The document advocates for 3D cultural heritage content to be findable, accessible, interoperable, and reusable (FAIR) by using common file formats, appropriate platforms, clear rights information, and adequate metadata.

Jydske Tidende og Kolding Folkeblad. Stadsarkivar Lene Wul, Kolding Stadsarkiv
Nordjyske Medier/Aalborg Stiftstidende. Arkivar Anders Lykke Widt, Aalborg Stadsarkiv
Merete Sanderhoff, Seniorrådgiver inden for digital museumspraksis, Statens Museum for Kunst

Zahra Mousavi, front-end udvikler & Mette Kia Krabbe Meyer, seniorforsker, Det Kgl. Bibliotek:
Arran Rees, Doctoral Researcher, University of Leeds
Lacking in context: cataloguing experiments with AI and photography. What are the potential benefits of using AI, specifically image recognition technology to catalogue cultural photographic collections? Can archives and museums trust this technology to record our cultural heritage? This paper unpacks the findings of an image recognition experiment using 50 photographs collected through the Nordic Collecting Social Photo project, arguing that the tools lack the ability to understand context, but could provide useful access widening metadata making the collections more accessible to online researchers.
Kim Steenstrup Pedersen, lektor, Image Section, Department of Computer Science, København Universitet
Overblik over kunstig intelligens og digital billedanalyse.
Mikael Braae, filmarkivar / DFI – Optimér filmens efterliv.
