"Men at some time are
 masters of their fates. The
fault, dear Brutus, is not in
our stars. But in ourselves."
          Cassius

Play...

In the play Cassius meant to tell Brutus
that in the past, people believed their fate
was decided, but he has the power to
change it.

                     4
Matambú
The Chorotegas were the first to arrive
in Costa Rica, and yet, when a greater
power came, they were subdued. The
Spanish people abolished their
language, prohibited their beliefs, and
imprisoned their culture.

                   5
Process
The Spanish conquistadors punished anyone
who would speak in their native language or act
according to their traditions.
Starting with the smallest generations, their
culture stated to disappear until it was gone.

                       6
But...
Destiny is a choice, and those people
chose not to give up on their beliefs and
are doing their best to preserve whatever
culture they have left.

                   7
Present Day
Today, little is known, but the Chorotegas carry
an optimistic mission to revive their culture.
They have only found about 500 words of their
original language, yet they keep trying to keep
their culture alive with their traditions.

                       8
"Mother's Day"
One of the traditions the Matambú people are
still keeping alive is their version of the Mother's
Day. In their celebration, all mothers of the
"town" go a special lunch to which only mothers
are invited to go.

                        9
Tortillas

Another tradition they still preserve is one we
can compare to when we Christians commune.
For then, the people came from corn, so they
consider tortillas to be special food which is not
permitted to eat with silverware, and is only
broken with the hands.

                        10

destined to become is the
