PRESS RELEASE
20TH MAY 2015
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Help make a difference for those living in your local community
Diverse Abilities is looking for a event squad volunteers to be part of the
astounding work the charity does for children and adults living with disabilities
in Dorset and help run its community events this summer.
Since 1955, Diverse Abilities has been Dorset’s leading disability charity,
providing support for children and adults living with profound physical and /or
learning disabilities.
Diverse Abilities runs a variety of events and challenges to raise funds to
continue supporting more children and adults to help fulfil their lives. Over the
summer, there will be a range of different community events taking place each
month and the charity needs the local community’s help. The charity is urgently
looking for volunteers at Harry Paye Day (20 June), Grooves on the Green (11
and 12 July), Melplash Agricultural Show (27 August) and The Dorset Country
Show (6 and 7 September).
Those that volunteer at the many exciting events will have a fun-filled time, meet
new people and help Diverse Abilities at the same time. All ages can get involved
and be part of the fun. An added bonus is that all volunteers will receive free
entry to the event so once they have finished helping out, they can relax and
enjoy the atmosphere!
Volunteers for these highly anticipated events will be asked to carry out tasks
such as selling raffle tickets, supervising children’s games and collecting funds
among other opportunities to get involved.
Beccy Briley, corporate and community fundraiser at Diverse Abilities, said:
“Volunteering gets you out and about; you can meet new people and learn a new
skill, while making a difference to Diverse Abilities. It is also great for your CV.
We would not be able to achieve everything we do without the help of our
amazing volunteers. So why not be one of the fantastic people who make a
difference this year!”

I chose to work with Dorset Abilities as they are a recognized, respected charity
within Dorset so therefore I was aware that they would be running a lot of
upcoming events in which I would be able to write a press release for. I emailed
the charity’s communication manager, Jenny Pearce, explaining the details of the
assignment task in which she responded with permission to write a press release
for them regarding the recruitment of new volunteers. I also got emailed one of
their event squad fliers with information of the events taking place during the
summer, information which I felt was necessary to include in the press release in
order to encourage new volunteers to get involved with the work that they do.
The target publication will be the Daily Echo, Bournemouth’s local newspaper.
Figures released last year show that the publication has a circulation of 19,022
and a readership of 56,171 (Newsquest 2014), which means that it is Dorset’s
biggest selling local daily newspaper. It is available from newsagents,
supermarkets, high street kiosks as well as online so therefore it is an accessible
publication.
