  • We believe in advocating for homelessness because it is a factor that is affecting our society day by day. The way our economy is changing every minute; homelessness is a growing negative factor in our society. As members, as citizens I believe it is our responsibilities to advocate for homelessness because sooner or later this factor will have an impact on everyone’s life. I believe it is our duty to help and contribute within our society so everyone can benefit and grow strong as a society, as a country. Shelter, food and clothing are essential in one’s life. I believe that everyone should be entitled for the basic necessity in life such as shelter, food and clothing. Any little change we as individual make can have a ripple effect for the betterment of our society. I believe that advocating for homelessness is important issue to be speaking about because it’s something we all see within our community and many people in our society choose to ignore it. Due to the fact that many members of society choose to ignore the fact that homelessness has become one of the major issues in our country, I believe that by advocating for this topic will help educate the society and open their eyes to the hardships that someone whom is homeless goes through and have them put themselves in the shoes of those whom may not have everything and fighting for their lives to put a roof over their families’ head as well as to be able to work to support themselves.

    2. 2.  Take a moment and think  Homelessness does it affect you now? Or even later on?  Do you know someone who suffers it?  When a person comes up to you and ask for a spare of change what comes to you mind? Will you spare some change?  Do you think people on the street are lazy?  Do you think differently about who they are? Do you treat them like normal humans?  When it comes to this face to face contact can you see a real person? Or someone you don’t even want to look at?
    3. 3. “Homelessness - simply defined - is the absence of a place to live. A person who has no regular place to live stays in an overnight emergency shelter, an abandoned building, an all-night coffee shop or theatre, a car, outdoors, or other such places not meant to be living spaces.” http://www.raisingtheroof.org/Get- Informed/What-is-Homelessness.aspx

(*As reported in Raising the Roof’s report Youth Homelessness in Canada: The Road to Solutions, 2009)• Some non-governmental sources estimate Canada’s true homeless population, not just those living in emergency shelters, to be between 200,000 and 300,000. (“Homelessness”, The Globe and Mail, June 12, 2006; National Housing and Homeless Network in Laird, op.cit., page 4)• The tens of thousands of people who are currently experiencing homelessness are a diverse mix of young and old, families with children, couples and single people (Laird, 2007; Hulchanski, J. D., Campsie, P., Chau, S. B.Y., Hwang, S. W., Paradis. E. Homelessness: What’s in a Word? (2009). In D. J. Hulchanski, P. Campsie, S. Chau, S. Hwang, E.
