Cloud-based platform as a service from SoftLayer, helps moovel GmbH increase service reach and availability for its urban carsharing service, while IBM’s app release management software accelerates app time to market.
Presented at NRF Big Show, the main technology in retail conference of the year, on January 13, 2015 in NYC. A discussion of challenges faced by big enterprises, particularly retailers, on their quest to become more agile, and what to do to enable agility through devops principles and pervasive automation in technology operations. It is the adaptation of the talk I gave at the CloudExpo 2 months earlier.
This talk describes how IBM Cloud Data Services is building a data-centric, cloud-based computing environment in which developers can focus on their data, coding and analytics, and be less concerned about the implementation details of getting that data into the right type of database -- relational, document store, key-value, graph, columnar, etc. Given at Cloud Expo NYC on June 10, 2015
Automate your NGINX Environment with the Ansible Collection for NGINX ControllerNGINX, Inc.
The Ansible collection for NGINX Controller contains a set of Ansible roles that make it easy to incorporate NGINX Controller into your workflows. This collection helps you automate routine tasks such as generating ephemeral API tokens, managing certificate lifecycles, and configuring Controller objects (gateways, applications, and components).
In this webinar, you’ll learn how to get started with the collection, including how to automate:
Installation of NGINX Plus
– Registration of NGINX Plus instances with NGINX Controller
– Management of certificates and configurations through your pipelines with NGINX Controller

The Case for Application Driven Cloud ComputingAdam Davis
While Cloud Computing is getting an incredible amount of attention, the focus is heavily on IaaS and an infrastructure-up view of Cloud. Many of the so-called PaaS offerings that are being made available provide a significant benefit to the efficiency of the services that are provided to developers, but is it enough? What happens if we eliminate the "middle" of the cloud computing stack and host the applications as close to the bare metal as possible? This is the promise of the Application Driven Cloud.

How to Balance System Speed and Risk for Multi-Platform InnovationClaudia Ring
Walking the line between speed to market and stability of mission-critical systems is something many enterprise organizations deal with on a consistent basis, especially when planning a major application release. Multi-speed IT is a term that connotes the difficulty of balancing speed and risk for these enterprises, but also one that inherently defines a solution; moving at different speeds depending on system requirements. While moving at various speeds based on whether you are releasing changes for Systems of Engagement (SOE) or Systems of Record (SOR) can seem negative, it can be used as a stepping stone towards complete enterprise agility and iterative improvements in release management across both types of systems. Join Rosalind Radcliffe, IBM Distinguished Engineer and Chief Architect for DevOps, as she discusses;
How to begin incorporating continuous testing into the release cycle for both SOE's and SOR's
How deployment automation can be incorporated into multi-platform deployments
How earlier, more frequent testing and automated deployments can help stabilize risk while increasing speed
Customer success with using these testing and deployment solutions to achieve agility across both SOE's and SOR's

My presentation for our Benelux IBM Rational Innovate event. This presentation explains how the IBM Bluemix and devops as a service solution can be used for modern cloud based development.
The world of IT is shifting rapidly towards DevOps with analysts predicting the majority of companies will adopt DevOps practices in the next few years. In fact, in a recent study on DevOps by International Data Corp. (IDC), they believe that DevOps will be adopted (in either practice or discipline) by 80% of Global 1000 organizations by 2019!
Forming a DevOps team seems like a natural step, but the idea of creating a dedicated DevOps team has ignited anger in the community. Why? What's the concern? Is a DevOps team evil? Completely necessary? A necessary Evil?
Join IBM UrbanCode's Eric Minick to learn the pitfalls of creating bad DevOps teams, and successful approaches of good ones. Along the way, we’ll explore other heresies such as using tools to change culture.

GDG Cloud Southlake #33: Boule & Rebala: Effective AppSec in SDLC using Deplo...James Anderson
Effective Application Security in Software Delivery lifecycle using Deployment Firewall and DBOM
The modern software delivery process (or the CI/CD process) includes many tools, distributed teams, open-source code, and cloud platforms. Constant focus on speed to release software to market, along with the traditional slow and manual security checks has caused gaps in continuous security as an important piece in the software supply chain. Today organizations feel more susceptible to external and internal cyber threats due to the vast attack surface in their applications supply chain and the lack of end-to-end governance and risk management.
The software team must secure its software delivery process to avoid vulnerability and security breaches. This needs to be achieved with existing tool chains and without extensive rework of the delivery processes. This talk will present strategies and techniques for providing visibility into the true risk of the existing vulnerabilities, preventing the introduction of security issues in the software, resolving vulnerabilities in production environments quickly, and capturing the deployment bill of materials (DBOM).
Speakers:
Bob Boule
Robert Boule is a technology enthusiast with PASSION for technology and making things work along with a knack for helping others understand how things work. He comes with around 20 years of solution engineering experience in application security, software continuous delivery, and SaaS platforms. He is known for his dynamic presentations in CI/CD and application security integrated in software delivery lifecycle.

Epistemic Interaction - tuning interfaces to provide information for AI supportAlan Dix
Paper presented at SYNERGY workshop at AVI 2024, Genoa, Italy. 3rd June 2024
https://alandix.com/academic/papers/synergy2024-epistemic/
As machine learning integrates deeper into human-computer interactions, the concept of epistemic interaction emerges, aiming to refine these interactions to enhance system adaptability. This approach encourages minor, intentional adjustments in user behaviour to enrich the data available for system learning. This paper introduces epistemic interaction within the context of human-system communication, illustrating how deliberate interaction design can improve system understanding and adaptation. Through concrete examples, we demonstrate the potential of epistemic interaction to significantly advance human-computer interaction by leveraging intuitive human communication strategies to inform system design and functionality, offering a novel pathway for enriching user-system engagements.

Connector Corner: Automate dynamic content and events by pushing a buttonDianaGray10
Here is something new! In our next Connector Corner webinar, we will demonstrate how you can use a single workflow to:
Create a campaign using Mailchimp with merge tags/fields
Send an interactive Slack channel message (using buttons)
Have the message received by managers and peers along with a test email for review
But there’s more:
In a second workflow supporting the same use case, you’ll see:
Your campaign sent to target colleagues for approval
If the “Approve” button is clicked, a Jira/Zendesk ticket is created for the marketing design team
But—if the “Reject” button is pushed, colleagues will be alerted via Slack message
Join us to learn more about this new, human-in-the-loop capability, brought to you by Integration Service connectors.

Neuro-symbolic is not enough, we need neuro-*semantic*Frank van Harmelen
Neuro-symbolic (NeSy) AI is on the rise. However, simply machine learning on just any symbolic structure is not sufficient to really harvest the gains of NeSy. These will only be gained when the symbolic structures have an actual semantics. I give an operational definition of semantics as “predictable inference”.
All of this illustrated with link prediction over knowledge graphs, but the argument is general.
