There are three major types of interferons
Interferon I , these are released by fibroblasts and monocytes. They are released when body
recognises a virus infection.
Interferon II, also known as immune interferon . Released by T helper cells. They block the
proliferation of type two T helper cells
Interferon III, are generally important for some types of virus infections . They are produced by
hepatocytes during acute hepatitis c virus infection
