Derivatives The derivative of ƒ at x is given by  Provided the limit exists.  A function is differentiable at x if its derivative exists at x. The process of finding derivatives is call differentiation.
Other ways to denote derivatives:
Find the derivative of ƒ(x) = x2 – 5x
Find the derivative of y with respect to t  y =
Differentiability and Continuity If a function is differentiable at x=c, then it is continuous at x=c. Differentiability implies continuity The reverse, however, is not true See page 89 figure 2.11 for examples
