1. DERAJAH - ASADENAKI
Derajah drops his new catchy and energetic single
Jamaican singer Derajah just released his new song Asadenaki, about togetherness and unity, part of
a new music series.
Derajah has recorded since the early 2000’s, but got his big break when he started working with legendary
guitarist Earl “Chinna” Smith and his music collective Inna De Yard. His debut album Paris is Burning -
released in 2011 - was however recorded with French band Donkey Jaw Bone along with a few Jamaican
musicians.
Since the release of his debut, Derajah has worked on a number of projects, including his brand new song
Asadenaki, whose instrumental was recorded in Brazil and vocal in Jamaica.
“Asadenaki means “Mystery” in an East African language. For me it is family, it represents my brother,
Asadenaki, the son of Bunny Wailer” says Derajah, and continues:
“In the house of Rastafari togetherness is everything at all times, Emperor HIM Haile Selassie I has shown
this to the world when he was about to be crowned. Letting everyone know it’s impossible to be crowded
without Empress Queen Menen Asfaw. So we need to organize and centralize. No separation. Together we
are strong. So clean up your hearts and come in the house of Rastafari now.”
His previous self-produced single The Time Is Now, released in 2016, was announcing his new album
which was postponed when he went back on board in Inna de Yard project in 2017.
Derajah is now focusing again on his own career and this new single is the first from a new series as he
concludes: “it is a new direction to the path I choose. I have decided to continue on my journey to release a
new song every month”.
2. The single Asadenaki was released on November 25th
, 2022 and is available on all streaming platforms.
The music video of Asadenaki is available on Youtube and was directed by Pete Beng.
Derajah explains that “it was shot in the Blue Mountains and the nyahbinghi part was shot in Kingston at
Kevin Steam Team JA headquarters.
In the Blue Mountains, I went to the Rastafari house of Nyahbinghi, School of Vision rasta camp, to visit
Ras Dermot Fagan and the family. After which we went at Kevin’s house.
I had invited members of the Inna de Yard family and Cedric Myton, Kiddus I, Wormbass, Abdel Wright,
my brother Roger From Portland, Ifree From outta The US Members of the Kush Art Band and my rasta
sister came out, Skanka Ras was also present, Kevin himself was with us, with Ras Kelly Holt and also
my Japanese rasta bredren and we cooked food on the set and have a wonderful time together
It was basically about togetherness, getting together and having a wonderful time”
