2. GOALS
There are several specific goals for training in Nephrology that reflect
the unique values, strengths, and resources of the Program. These
include:
Learning a biopsychosocial approach to patient care
Pursuing experiences with patient-centered research
Participating in activities that improve the health of our community
Providing leadership in efforts to improve quality of care
Participating in research and curriculum development that advance
graduate medical education nationally
3. HISTORY
The Department of Nephrology was re-established in 1992
as successor of the department of the Internal
Medicine which was established in 1945.
The head of the department is Dr. T.Ariunaa. The
department is functioning with
five faculty members. The department is running its

Current areas of research focus include studies of
the epidemiology of CKD and its risk factors. In
addition to research projects supported by
governmental research grants, the HSUM
Department of Nephrology has been established
as the Sister Renal Center by the International
Society of Nephrology.
7. POSTGRADUATE TRAINING
Our program is designed to prepare fellows for
academic and/or clinical careers in the disciplines
of nephrology. We offer training opportunities in
combined clinical and research aspects of
nephrology, including bench and patient oriented
investigation, as well as in clinical nephrology
alone. Fellows have the opportunity to participate in
the Doctoral Program leading to a Ph.D. in either
