- Vikings – empire: Huge country– Norway, parts of Sweden, parts of Germany, Greenland, Iceland, FaraoesFeudal society – Kingdom. Church had power. Peasants owned by rich. Jutlandanian Law – Peasants became free. Made industrialization more equal than other places. First constitution 1849 – Baby steps toward a true democracy. Men over 40 years of age who owned land could vote and run. Second constitution 1915 – Everybody over the age of 25 could vote and run. Women included. The Kanslergade Settlement – 1933. The western world is facing the depression. For the first time in Danish democracy’s history, a broad settlement is made. Saved Denmark’s ass!Third constitution 1953 – Two major changes: Everybody over 18 years of age can vote and run. A woman can become head of state. There have been more constitutional changes, but these are the major ones. And now for today!
