you can optimize websites for Search
Engines
I might use some untechnical terms to drive
the point home - please pardon me, this
was not intended to be an english class
Search Engine Optimizatio(SEO) is the process of
making it easy for people(search engines) to find you
online - C’est finis
Bounce rate is the rate at which people leave your
website without taking any action at all at all.
I call these people “bouncers”
Terms you should know
The higher your bounce rate, the lower
your chances of getting indexed,
thereby reducing your chances of being
found online (o mase o)

*Since Yaba is closer to Surulere, Yaba will most likely be your first answer:
you are not wrong - time however is just one of the factors
Driving it home
Page speed: Surulere to Shomolu is 17mins while Surulere to Lekki is
43mins so timewise, you can access your Shomolu padi faster and
easily. A good website shouldn’t take more than 5secs to load at most -
2secs is the standard though
Internet speed: Your means of transportation - uber/bolt or molue. Not
all your users use 4G or office Wi-FI
The kind of reception. If your Shomolu friend has a bad attitude - you
most likely will visit your Lekki friend more no matter the distance (a.k.a
your website content - layout, colors, typography, etc)

your SEO
Reduce images without loosing
quality - no image should be more
than 500KB
- Save for web in Photoshop
- Use plugins like Wp Smush in Wordpress
- Consider a platform like Cloudinary to host
your images for static websites

Deliver assets(CSS, JS, images) over a
CDN (Content Delivery Network) e.g
Cloudinary
Don’t forget to minify your JS/CSS files

Avoid too many affiliate links on your
website. It will end in premium tears.
Advisably, use google adsense if you
want to advertise at all.

Keywords come forward, the
rest of you f*ck off
Words that directly relate to the brand
e.g the brand name, etc should reflect
more in the upper parts of your website
than in the lower parts of the website

As in design, so it is in SEO.
Hierarchy is king
Keywords in heading (h1, h2, h3...) have
more value than keywords in body text.

readable both on pc and on
mobile
The minimum font size should be 16px -
except you know what you are doing

not get to a part of your website
and not be able to access other
parts
For blogs/case studies, have a next/previous
section or related posts/case studies or both
Your navigation/menu should not be complex

Developers take note. This is how
bots read your images
Never leave it empty.
Worst case scenario, use the image title e.g

Let authority websites(i.e website with high
reputation) link to your website when they mention
you (this is known as backlinks)
Use a meta description that concisely describes a
page/posts with appropriate keys such as: design
agency in Nigeria against a madass agency
Link to parts(pages,articles e.t.c) of your website to
pass the juice around (this is know as deeplinking)A B
Know if you are on track and keep
iterating for success
Test your page speed (www.tools.pingdom.com,
testmysite.withgoogle.com)
Put an eyes on analytics to measure traffic
Check your Google search console to see how
people are finding you and optimize

  • 11. Deliver assets(CSS, JS, images) over a CDN (Content Delivery Network) e.g Cloudinary Don’t forget to minify your JS/CSS files 2 3
  • 12. Avoid too many affiliate links on your website. It will end in premium tears. Advisably, use google adsense if you want to advertise at all. 3
  • 13. 5 Keywords come forward, the rest of you f*ck off Words that directly relate to the brand e.g the brand name, etc should reflect more in the upper parts of your website than in the lower parts of the website 4
  • 14. As in design, so it is in SEO. Hierarchy is king Keywords in heading (h1, h2, h3...) have more value than keywords in body text. 5 6
  • 15. Your content should be readable both on pc and on mobile The minimum font size should be 16px - except you know what you are doing 6 7
