Rising human populations are largely responsible for the environmental degradation that ecological restoration seeks to repair.
the discipline of ecological restoration is likely to face its greatest challenges at a time when human capital and economic resources will be inadequate for the scale of the problem.
Restoration of damaged ecosystems is receiving increasing attention worldwide as awareness increases that humanity must sustain ecosystem structure, functioning, and diversity for its own wellbeing.
Restoration rebuilds an ecosystem little different than the pristine ecosystem that was degraded. It is done to the physical environment and to plants in restoration.
Definition of ecosystem restoration: ‘the process of assisting the recovery of an ecosystem that has been degraded, damaged, or destroyed’.
, there are many approaches to restoration, and the choice of approach should arguably be based on –
1. which is most appropriate given the objectives.
2. which provides the greatest likelihood of success.
These efforts may be conducted on either a small-scale (e.g., tree planting) or
May involve major human and technical efforts (e.g., re-creation of wetlands, acid lake neutralization).
Principles For Restoration
KEY ACTIVITIES FOR ECOSYTEM RESTORSTION
Soil is a thin covering over the land that consist of a mixture of minerals, organic material, living organisms, air and water.
Land is part of the earth not covered by water. Land is the solid part of the earth's surface. Our land is home to many unique plants and animals
Soil degradation is the decline in soil condition caused by its improper use or poor management, usually for agricultural, industrial or urban purposes. It is a serious environmental problem.
Soil degradation is the loss of land’s production capacity in terms of loss of soil fertility, soil biodiversity, and degradation. Soil degradation causes include agricultural, industrial, and commercial pollution; loss of arable land due to urban expansion, overgrazing, and unsustainable agricultural practices; and long-term climatic changes. According to a recent report to the United Nations, almost one-third of the world’s farmable land has disappeared in the last four decades. It was also reported that all of the World’s topsoil could become unproductive within 60 years if current rates of loss continue
Degraded land is land that has lost some degree of its natural productivity due to human-caused processes. In the context of developing policies to reduce emissions from deforestation and forest degradation degraded land refers to areas with low carbon stocks.
Land degradation is the reduction or loss of the biological or economic productivity and complexity of rain—fed cropland, irrigated cropland, or range, pasture, forest or woodlands resulting from natural processes, land uses or other human activities and habitation patterns such as land contamination, soil erosion and the destruction of the vegetation cover

2. WHAT IS DEFORESTATION?
• It’s an action carried out by
humans, in which the forest
surfaces are destroyed or
depleted, generally with the aim of
allocating the land to another
activity. this could be crops or
livestock and in some cases this
could be illegal
3. ADVANTAGES AND DISADVANTAGES
• This activity has more disadvantages than advantages but it depends on the
situation.
When this activity is with the intention of generating land can be dangerous
‘cause destroy forest ecosystems, air quality worsens, infers with the water cycle,
remove carbon deposits contributing to global warming among others.
And when it is to avoid damage from poorly supported trees, Provide sunlight to
younger trees or Provide lumber for multiple purposes it’s ok.
4. HOW TO AVOID DEFORESTATION?
• 1. Eliminate subsidies for forms of agriculture that damage forests
• 2. Invest in indigenous communities
• 3. Talk about the causes of deforestation
• 4. Demonstrate that forest conservation and economic development are not
mutually exclusive
5. SUMMARY AND PERSONAL OPINION
• It is clear that deforestation is bad
for us and for the planet and that it
should be avoided at all costs to
prolong the life of the planet due to
its multiple damages. And in
conclusion I am against this and
would only allow it if it was done for
the causes in favor mentioned
above.
