Deforestation
Presented by : Mr. Mathole 3
Deforestation is the removal
of forests from land prior to
it being converted to
another use other than that
of a forest. Conversion of
forest land to farmland,
ranches, or urban usage is a
form of deforestation.

7. Areas of focus
Brazil
• Brazil's Amazon region lost flora covering 9,762
square kilometers (3,769 square miles) between
August 2018 and July 2019. The world's largest
rainforest acts as a "carbon storage," reducing the
rate of global warming.
Russia
• Russia has over a fifth of the Earth's forests and its
taiga, or boreal forest, is the largest forested area
on the planet. Fires are the primary threat to boreal
forests – the WWF has reported an average annual
rate of 1-3m hectares.

Ethiopia
• Ethiopia's forest cover decreased from 35% in the
early 20th century to just 4% by the 2000s,
according to the UN. The prime minister of Ethiopia
has launched a campaign to plant 4 billion trees in
the nation. He personally planted 350 million trees
in a single day in July.

is the belief that someone else will
save it.

9. How can “U” prevent deforestation
Plant a tree
Grow trees to purify the
environment. During the
process of
photosynthesis, green
plants take up carbon
and emit oxygen.
Biodegradable
Products
You must regularly use
environmentally friendly
goods.
Stop Usage of
Wooden Products
Although wood is an
excellent material for
home décor and is
durable, avoid using it.
Launch Public
Awareness
Campaign
Your voice has the
potential to motivate the
next generation.

10. Timeline of Prevention
Mohlolo Mathole
Plant a tree and water it daily.
When the tree has grown,
plant another one.
MISSION 1
Buy few products that are
biodegradable. Then ensure
that your entire grocery is eco-
friendly
MISSION2
Start a local campaign, then
invite family and friends join
you
MISSION 3
Use social media platforms to
spread awareness about the
consequences of deforestation
MISSION4
Start a small nonprofit
Organization.
MISSION 5
11. Summary
Deforestation can be explained as the removal of trees or the
forest for purpose of something else. This removal is mainly
caused by agricultural activities, urbanization, livestock ranching
etc. It is a dangerous practice as it can lead to global warming,
green house gases emission, climate change and other various
factors. To prevent this act, we must ensure that we practice
forestation by planting trees, using eco-friendly products and many
other solutions.
