Description:
Technicolor is a leading company for making Blu-ray discs; it authors around 300
Blu-ray discs every year to different studios like Disney, Paramount, Fox, MGM, Relativity
and Universal. Each of these studios wants their own style to present disc for their customers
along with unique behavior which has been fulfilled by Playback abstraction Layer.
Playback abstraction layer is a library and a middle tier between actual playback
engine and Technicolor authoring framework. BD-j authors call this intermediate library
functions instead of actual Playback engine functions. These intermediate methods handle the
complex logic according to studio requirement and then call actual playback engine methods
to perform playback. Using this middle tier Technicolor has increased the productive by 70
percent, since most of the studio logic has been handled in the library which has been
implemented and tested completely.

Developing applications for the Blue-Ray discs. Primarily creating next generation,
innovative and interactive Menu Application for the Blue-ray discs for the high definition movies
.Work involves creative thinking for new ideas and Logical and Technical efforts for the
implementation. Requires sound understanding of Java core concepts Polymorphism,
Multithreading and Event handling.
BD-J is a specification based on the Personal Basis Profile of the Connected Device
Configuration (CDC).It is designed for the development of enhanced features for the Blue-ray
discs primarily the menu applications.
Job demands out of box thinking to solve various scenarios and commitment to meet
tight timelines which become tighter due to occasional changes required by clients. Requires
great cooperation and excellent coordination among the team members to meet high quality
standards. The same has been delivered.

Description
These applications vary as per the client requirements of the logic. Depending upon
the client various functionalities and effects are implemented in these applications .The
application is a menu for a BluRay Disc that offers next generation functionalities to the user.
The “Menu” allows user not just to play the movie but also provides an interface to play

4. special contents other than the movie which are available on the disc. So user can play some
extra content and the can opt to watch the movie form the point he left.
Menu also allows user to watch movie with a variety of languages available on disc.
User can also select various subtitle options available. Menu application allows user to
change these options during the movie is playing. The menu itself is programmed to provide
great visual effects to match the high definition expectations. Various effects are added to
enhance user experience.

TimeLine bar functionality means its shows the current state of the disc.
Example current scene and current time etc…And it has to popup in the disc as per the client
requirements.
Responsibilities (Menu Based Applications):-
 Participate in project evaluation and analysis. To understand the complexity and
requirements of the projects.
 Responsible for implementing the logic as per the client requirement. Need to
implement the logic which is client specific and project specific. Finding out solutions
for new functionalities and improving the current methods.
 Challenges are thrown due to hardware constraints. Need to anticipate problems
arising out of such constraints and find out the solution for the same.
 Participate in the continual improvement of the methodologies and modules used for
