Context matters. Perspective matters. Thinking outside the box? That's often the key! While the Structured Query Language remains the lingua Franca of data, there are some views of the world that are best rendered with the benefit of NoSQL engines. As usual, that's easier said than done. How can your organization migrate from a structured query to unstructured or semi-structured query language?
Register for this episode of The Briefing Room to find out! Veteran Analyst Dr. Robin Bloor will provide a detailed assessment of serious considerations when using NoSQL engines in conjunction with SQL. He'll be briefed by Ryan Millay of IBM Cloudant, who will showcase his company's solution, and how it's addressing the more vexing challenges facing today's information managers.

Cloud Database Migration Made Easy: Migrating MySQL to NuoDBNuoDB
For organizations moving to cloud infrastructure, database migration can be the stuff of nightmares. When selecting a cloud-centric database, balancing ease of migration with the on-demand scaling and continuous availability your modern application needs can seem like a series of compromises... But it doesn’t have to be.
In these slides, we showcase how simple it is to move from a traditional relational database to NuoDB’s elastic SQL database and talk about how this compares to the complexity of moving to a NoSQL database.
Senior Product Manager Joe Leslie demonstrates how to use NuoDB’s built-in migrator facility to simplify migration from databases such as MySQL, Microsoft SQL Server, or Oracle over to NuoDB, minimizing the transition time, and making it easy to get started sooner.

How Development Teams Cut Costs with ScyllaDB.pdfScyllaDB
Now that teams are increasingly being pressed to cut costs, the database can be a low-hanging fruit for sizable cost reduction – especially if you’re managing terabytes to petabytes of data with millions of read/write operations per second.
Join Tzach Livyatan, VP of Product at ScyllaDB, as he shares four ways that teams commonly cut database costs by rethinking their database strategy. We’ll cover topics including:
- Cutting admin costs by reducing node sprawl and reducing the need for tuning
- ScyllaDB as a better, compatible Amazon DynamoDB
- Options to increase price performance through new cloud instances
- Ways to safely add more workloads to your cluster without compromising the performance of your latency-sensitive workloads
Learn the fundamentals of Amazon DynamoDB and see the DynamoDB console first-hand as we walk through a demo of building a serverless web application using this high-performance key-value and JSON document store.
Case Study: Sprinklr Uses Amazon EBS to Maximize Its NoSQL Deployment - DAT33...Amazon Web Services
Sprinklr delivers a complete social media management system for the enterprise. It also helps the world’s largest brands do marketing, advertising, care, sales, research, and commerce on Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, and 21 other channels on a global level. This is all done on a single integrated platform. In this session, you learn about Sprinklr’s journey to the cloud and discover how to optimize your NoSQL database on AWS for cost, efficiency, and scale. We also do dive deep into best practices and architectural considerations for designing and managing NoSQL databases, such as Apache Cassandra, MongoDB, Apache CouchDB, and Aerospike on Amazon EC2 and Amazon EBS. We share best practices for instance and volume selection, provide performance tuning hints, and describe cost optimization techniques throughout.
This is the deck I used in TDC Floripa 2015 to show how you can design your product to have SOA benefits with minimal impact on developers productivity. It talks about SOA principles, how Play! is a good choice as HTTP server and how you can version CouchDB documents and views.
Elastic SQL Database: Oxymoron or Emerging Reality? (Database Month, June 2017)NuoDB
Advancements in application architectures, development processes, and storage have enabled organizations to take advantage of cloud benefits such as agility, elasticity, and scale-out across most layers of the infrastructure stack. But one key element - the database tier - has remained stubbornly difficult to modernize. Often, as organizations move toward container and cloud-based environments, they end up leaving their database, their SQL skillsets, expectations of transactional consistency, and sometimes even their precious data behind.
To address this problem, a new class of database - the elastic SQL database - has emerged. These solutions combine the ACID guarantees and SQL interface on which applications rely, while also allowing dynamic capacity management, continuous availability, multi-datacenter operation, and radical operational simplicity.
Learn how to take advantage of this technology to optimize your application for fast transactional responsiveness, continuous availability, and full-active database utilization, even across multiple clouds, data centers, or hybrid environments.
This presentation covers:
• Why the need for an elastic SQL database
• What can you do with one and best use cases for an elastic SQL database
• Examples of how an elastic SQL database works
• Benefits of optimizing/configuring for:
• fast application data access
• continuous availability
• deployment across data centers

Kubernetes & AI - Beauty and the Beast !?! @KCD Istanbul 2024Tobias Schneck
As AI technology is pushing into IT I was wondering myself, as an “infrastructure container kubernetes guy”, how get this fancy AI technology get managed from an infrastructure operational view? Is it possible to apply our lovely cloud native principals as well? What benefit’s both technologies could bring to each other?
Let me take this questions and provide you a short journey through existing deployment models and use cases for AI software. On practical examples, we discuss what cloud/on-premise strategy we may need for applying it to our own infrastructure to get it to work from an enterprise perspective. I want to give an overview about infrastructure requirements and technologies, what could be beneficial or limiting your AI use cases in an enterprise environment. An interactive Demo will give you some insides, what approaches I got already working for real.
Elevating Tactical DDD Patterns Through Object CalisthenicsDorra BARTAGUIZ
After immersing yourself in the blue book and its red counterpart, attending DDD-focused conferences, and applying tactical patterns, you're left with a crucial question: How do I ensure my design is effective? Tactical patterns within Domain-Driven Design (DDD) serve as guiding principles for creating clear and manageable domain models. However, achieving success with these patterns requires additional guidance. Interestingly, we've observed that a set of constraints initially designed for training purposes remarkably aligns with effective pattern implementation, offering a more ‘mechanical’ approach. Let's explore together how Object Calisthenics can elevate the design of your tactical DDD patterns, offering concrete help for those venturing into DDD for the first time!
Neuro-symbolic is not enough, we need neuro-*semantic*Frank van Harmelen
Neuro-symbolic (NeSy) AI is on the rise. However, simply machine learning on just any symbolic structure is not sufficient to really harvest the gains of NeSy. These will only be gained when the symbolic structures have an actual semantics. I give an operational definition of semantics as “predictable inference”.
All of this illustrated with link prediction over knowledge graphs, but the argument is general.
