Cassidy parent satisfaction survey results 2012 13

11.10.2014 - Veteran's Day
Several Orange schools held Veterans Day assemblies to honor local and family veterans. Race Brook School's assembly included songs, poems, and a principal's presentation of slides from Washington D.C. monuments. Peck Place and Turkey Hill Schools were scheduled to hold assemblies the following day. The schools also participated in clothing donation drives to support troops. Kindergarten enrollment numbers were reported and upcoming kindergarten activities described, including Native American visits and Thanksgiving feasts. Halloween celebrations were noted as successful at all schools. An audit of special education was conducted through site visits and document review with a staff survey and report to the Board planned for February.
October Superintendent's Report to Orange BOE
The superintendent's report discussed several events that occurred in October, including a Peck Place community open house that 70 people attended but did not meet its goal, the district's ELL program being recognized with the ELL teacher invited to help write new state standards, code red drills being conducted at the schools with some equipment issues, and the launch of the new Journeys reading curriculum district-wide. The report also mentioned Mike Gray being recognized by the Connecticut Association of Schools and the professional development activities held on the last Friday of the month for teachers, special education staff, and specialists.

Kindergarten Survey • There is no immediate curricular need • 85% of 2013 kindergarteners Level 4 readers or above • 91% at or above the STAR Early Literacy grade-level expectation • 97% met the Math Expressions grade-level benchmark. • As 1st graders, 58% met the 'end-of-the-year benchmark‘ on the beginning of the year math placement test • DRG B – 9 of the 20 DRG districts have full-day • No state requirement for full-day • .84 is already partially extended (over typical .5 day)
