Concept developmentA Tale of Two Cities
innovative - Contrast - division
A Tale of Two Cities creates the beginning conceptual process of a work office in Sao Paulo, Brazil. The work place in Sao Paulo is set to be developed in 5 years
from now, this should be kept in mind while designing the space. The business that will be occupying the workspace has a great commitment in being innovative,
hard workers, and having individuality which needs to be seen in the space. The core values of the business should tie into the surrounding location, in this case Sao
Paulo, Brazil. Sao Paulo, Brazil is known for its large skyscrapers, vibrancy, and growing economy but when one takes a good look into the city one will see that it has
a lot more to offer. Sao Paulo is divided into two sections the lower income areas and the wealthy areas, these areas show a contrast within the city. This division gives
the impression that Sao Paulo could be two completely different cities. To design this workplace the concepts of both the city and business shall be combined. These
concepts can be seen in the floor plan of the space. The idea of hard work is shown with the glass partitions around the workstations, this allows for all to see the hard
work that is done by the employees. Division is created with separation of spaces from workstations to private offices and so on, it also is created with the use dividing
spaces with curved and straight lines. Using new materials with reclaimed materials in the spaces represent contrast with reclaimed wood, rustic metals, concrete,
metal, and glass. Innovation relates to both the workplace and Sao Paulo and can be seen in the design of the space with the use of reclaimed items like palettes, crates,
and taking advantage of resources. The workplace designed takes on the concept explored by the idea of a “Tale of Two Cities.”
