This week we see king David is bringing the Ark of the Covenant out of the land of the Philistines, to house it in Jerusalem. One of the men touches the Ark and immediately dies. David is angry and sullen. It seems unfair. How are we to think of this story? What was God trying to say to David and the people of Israel?

Jesus has been called the "Great Physician." We think of His miracles of healing. But those miracles of healing our physical bodies point to a far greater miracle--the healing of our heart and soul. He doesn't just mean physical life and death. He points to something greater--spiritual life and death, both in this world and the next.

We can spend a lifetime looking for that which will fill our souls. We can look far and wide, with people, with events, with experiences, with acquisitions, and with just about anything else you of which comes to mind. But we will never touch the deepest parts of our soul until we find what Jesus called "living water." We will experience more of that living water as we become dispensers of living water, just like the woman we'll study this week!

In John 3, Jesus teaches Nicodemus, a committed leader of Judaism, about the necessity of being born again. John 3 also lays out God's rescue mission of men and women who are lost, guilty, and without hope, in need of rescue! But most folks aren't interested, not believing they need rescuing, and certainly not interested in the remedy for sin.

We so often hear the story of Mary this time of year, but it’s just as easy to gloss over the extreme cost it would have been to a young girl, to find herself graced with this ‘favor’ from God. What did it cost her in terms of her life’s plans? What did it cost her socially, with her family, with friends and neighbors? What does radical obedience cost us?

In spite of the mess of the world, Jesus is King. He reigns, even here, even amidst the rubble of sin and the rubble of people’s lives. It is that assurance that provides us peace and a soul that can rest in the often fiery and unpredictable world in which we live. It matters that Jesus is King!

It is likely during this time of COVID, that you have experienced a heightened sense of despondency. You've also likely experienced a heightened sense of loneliness, isolation, and being disconnected. Jesus experienced all of this as well. That He has experienced these things is meant to comfort you, lift you, and carry you along in during times like these. It's the HUMANITY of Jesus that surprises us with rest for our souls.

The Christmas message clearly spells out the deity of Christ, but this is not just a theological issue with which to ponder. It is meant to jolt us out of our spiritual stupor (sleepiness) to obeying "Jesus Christ our LORD." If obedience in our daily lives is replaced by right theology, then the boat has sailed without us.

What christ offers, what we offer p 1 seth gatchell november 22 2020Pacific Church
Beneath people's veneer are hidden questions. "Do I matter? Do I matter to anyone? Does someone really care about me?" People hunger and thirst for real "life," that sense of satisfaction that comes from being deeply connected with God and others. That is what Christ offers us, and He offers this real "life" through us to others! What we all want to know, is how does this happen?
This week we are looking at understanding and interpreting the Bible. The Bible is composed of 66 Books in multiple genres written over thousands of years. It can be daunting, and sometimes hard to understand. This week we are taking a few steps to try and make it a little easier to understand.
Jeremiah was known as "the weeping prophet." In spite of his faithful and bold preaching, he watched helplessly as his beloved nation continued to slide toward destruction. Jeremiah paid a terrible price for his message. He faced ridicule, scorn, torture and suffering. What was most heart-breaking was watching the Babylonians break through the city walls of Jerusalem, burn the city to the ground, turn stone buildings into rubble, and drive 90% of the people into exile. IT DIDN’T HAVE TO END THIS WAY.

This 9-week series has been written to help you think biblically about the issues before us, and particularly the ideas and underpinnings of candidates' platforms and policy decisions. In our country, this is where the rubber meets the road. This week we'll look at some of the ISM's that drive secular politics and beliefs, and do a two day dive into the "hottest" and "newest" ISM, then compare it with the biblical worldview.
Work economy goverment our biblical worldview part 8 seth g october 25 2020Pacific Church
Work is work, and work takes work. Work is another introduction into the realities of life. But work is not just about work. There is the interplay of economics and government. It is important to have what the bible calls "understanding," not just about work, economics and government to have "understanding" about how these three entities should work together.
Gender our biblical worldview part 7 seth g october 18 2020Pacific Church
In our day there is growing confusion about gender. There is a secular movement of thinking that seeks to minimize or obliterate any differences between genders. In this secular way of thinking, gender is something that one feels or identifies as. This is like leaving a great sailing ship on the high seas without sails and a rudder. It will be carried along wherever the current wishes, adrift on the open seas. The unintended consequences of this thinking is to create greater confusion for young people who already struggle with their gender and confusing feelings of their identity, but there is a wondrous design to complementary gender that seeks to build intimacy in a marriage, deeper relationships with people, and reflects the wonder of our Trinitarian God.
Our biblical worldview part 6 seth g october 11 2020Pacific Church
What does the bible say about marriage? Up until 15-20 years ago this was not a "controversial" topic. Everyone knew the answer. Our secular culture continues to send its tsunami waves at our Judeo-Christian heritage, causing great confusion. How are we to think about same-sex marriage? What does the bible say? Before we address those questions we will spend time reviewing what makes a marriage a biblical marriage.
As we continue our conversation on a Christian worldview, specifically as it deals with thinking through this upcoming election we are diving deeper and deeper into different issues. This week we are looking at the sanctity of life. What it means to be made in the image of God, to have value, and to be worthy of life, no matter what stage of life you are in.
A Biblical Worldview - The Role of GovernmentPacific Church
Our task is to always learn God's eternal truths and apply them to our lives. This includes how God views government. What does the bible say about government?
How do the bible's stories illustrate the truth or foolishness of how government is done? How do we apply the biblical truths in our country? This requires wisdom, discernment, humility and what the Bible calls "good sense."

He preserves for us what may well have been part of the apostolic catechism for the first generation of Christ-followers. In these instructions Jude exhorts the believer to deal with 3 different groups of people: scoffers who are "devoid of the Spirit", believers who have come under the influence of scoffers and believers who are so entrenched in false teaching that they need rescue and pose some real spiritual risk for the rescuer. In all of this Jude emphasizes Jesus' call to rescue straying sheep, leaving the 99 safely behind and pursuing the 1.

David holiness and the ark of the covenant seth g march 10 2019

Holiness and the Ark of the Covenant
2. ISRAEL'S DOWNWARD SPIRAL AWAY FROM GOD, INTO MISERY
Judges 2:10 After that whole generation had been gathered
to their fathers, another generation grew up, who knew
neither the LORD nor what he had done for Israel.
3. ISRAEL'S DOWNWARD SPIRAL AWAY FROM GOD, INTO MISERY
11 Then the Israelites did evil in the eyes of the LORD and
served the Baals.
4. ISRAEL'S DOWNWARD SPIRAL AWAY FROM GOD, INTO MISERY
12 They forsook the LORD, the God of their fathers, who
had brought them out of Egypt. They followed and
worshiped various gods of the peoples around them. They
provoked the LORD to anger 13 because they forsook him
and served Baal and the Ashtoreths.
5. ISRAEL'S DOWNWARD SPIRAL AWAY FROM GOD, INTO MISERY
14 In his anger against Israel the LORD handed them over to
raiders who plundered them. He sold them to their enemies
all around, whom they were no longer able to resist.
6. ISRAEL'S DOWNWARD SPIRAL AWAY FROM GOD, INTO MISERY
15 Whenever Israel went out to fight, the hand of the LORD
was against them to defeat them, just as he had sworn to
them. They were in great distress.
7. ISRAEL'S DOWNWARD SPIRAL AWAY FROM GOD, INTO MISERY
25 In those days there was no king in Israel; every man did
what was right in his own eyes.
8. THE IMPERATIVE OF HOLINESS
Proverbs 14:34 Righteousness exalts a nation, but sin is a
disgrace to any people.
9. THE IMPERATIVE OF HOLINESS
What is holiness?
We take the moral law as our rule and
God's incarnate Son as our model.
J.I. Packer
10. THE IMPERATIVE OF HOLINESS
1 Peter 1:15 … but as he who called you is holy, be holy
yourselves in all your conduct; 16 since it is written, "You
shall be holy, for I am holy."
11. THE IMPERATIVE OF HOLINESS
Hebrews 12:14 Make every effort to live in peace with all
men and to be holy; without holiness no one will see the
Lord.
12. THE REBUILDING OF HOLINESS BEGINS IN SHOCKING WAYS…
2 Samuel 6:2 He [David] and all his men set out from
Baalah of Judah to bring up from there the ark of God,
which is called by the Name, the name of the LORD
Almighty, who is enthroned between the cherubim that are
on the ark.
13. THE REBUILDING OF HOLINESS BEGINS IN SHOCKING WAYS…
3 They set the ark of God on a new cart and brought it from
the house of Abinadab, which was on the hill. Uzzah and
Ahio, sons of Abinadab, were guiding the new cart 4 with
the ark of God on it, and Ahio was walking in front of it.
14. THE REBUILDING OF HOLINESS BEGINS IN SHOCKING WAYS…
5 David and the whole house of Israel were celebrating with
all their might before the LORD, with songs and with harps,
lyres, tambourines, sistrums and cymbals.
15. THE REBUILDING OF HOLINESS BEGINS IN SHOCKING WAYS…
6 When they came to the threshing floor of Nacon, Uzzah
reached out and took hold of the ark of God, because the
oxen stumbled. 7 The LORD's anger burned against Uzzah
because of his irreverent act; therefore God struck him
down and he died there beside the ark of God.
16. THE REBUILDING OF HOLINESS BEGINS IN SHOCKING WAYS…
8 Then David was angry because the LORD's wrath had
broken out against Uzzah, and to this day that place is
called Perez Uzzah.
17. THE REBUILDING OF HOLINESS BEGINS IN SHOCKING WAYS…
9 David was afraid of the LORD that day and said, "How
can the ark of the LORD ever come to me?"
18. THE REBUILDING OF HOLINESS BEGINS IN SHOCKING WAYS…
10 He was not willing to take the ark of the LORD to be
with him in the City of David. Instead, he took it aside to
the house of Obed-Edom the Gittite.
19. DAVID REPENTS, THE ARK COMES TO JERUSALEM
1 Chronicles 15:2 David said, "No one but the Levites may
carry the ark of God, because the LORD chose them to
carry the ark of the LORD and to minister before him
forever." 3 David assembled all Israel in Jerusalem to bring
up the ark of the LORD to the place he had prepared for it.
20. DAVID REPENTS, THE ARK COMES TO JERUSALEM
4 He called together the descendants of Aaron and the
Levites:
21. DAVID REPENTS, THE ARK COMES TO JERUSALEM
12 He said to them, "You are the heads of the Levitical
families; you and your fellow Levites are to consecrate
yourselves and bring up the ark of the LORD, the God of
Israel, to the place I have prepared for it.
22. DAVID REPENTS, THE ARK COMES TO JERUSALEM
13 It was because you, the Levites, did not bring it up the
first time that the LORD our God broke out in anger against
us. We did not inquire of him about how to do it in the
prescribed way." 14 So the priests and Levites consecrated
themselves in order to bring up the ark of the LORD, the
God of Israel.
23. DAVID REPENTS, THE ARK COMES TO JERUSALEM
2 Samuel 6:12 ... David went down and brought up the ark
of God from the house of Obed-Edom to the City of David
with rejoicing.
24. DAVID'S PRAYER FOR WHAT HE WOULD NOT BUILD
2 Samuel 7:5 "Go and tell my servant David, 'This is what
the LORD says: Are you the one to build me a house to
dwell in?
25. DAVID'S PRAYER FOR WHAT HE WOULD NOT BUILD
6 I have not dwelt in a house from the day I brought the
Israelites up out of Egypt to this day. I have been moving
from place to place with a tent as my dwelling.
26. DAVID'S PRAYER FOR WHAT HE WOULD NOT BUILD
7 Wherever I have moved with all the Israelites, did I ever

my people Israel, "Why have you not built me a house of

27. DAVID'S PRAYER FOR WHAT HE WOULD NOT BUILD
8 "Now then, tell my servant David, 'This is what the LORD

following the flock to be ruler over my people Israel.
28. DAVID'S PRAYER FOR WHAT HE WOULD NOT BUILD
9 I have been with you wherever you have gone, and I have
cut off all your enemies from before you. Now I will make
your name great, like the names of the greatest men of the
earth.
29. DAVID'S PRAYER FOR WHAT HE WOULD NOT BUILD
10 And I will provide a place for my people Israel and will
plant them so that they can have a home of their own and

31. DAVID'S PRAYER FOR WHAT HE WOULD NOT BUILD
12 When your days are over and you rest with your fathers, I
will raise up your offspring to succeed you, who will come
from your own body, and I will establish his kingdom.
32. DAVID'S PRAYER FOR WHAT HE WOULD NOT BUILD
13 He is the one who will build a house for my Name, and I
will establish the throne of his kingdom forever. 14 I will be
his father, and he will be my son. When he does wrong, I
will punish him with the rod of men, with floggings
inflicted by men.
33. DAVID'S PRAYER FOR WHAT HE WOULD NOT BUILD
