Summary of Experience
I have predominantly worked for three companies since immigrating to Australia from
the UK. 18 1/2 years was spent at United Group Rail (formally A Goninan) 3 ½ years
with Drivetrain Power & Propulsion (Formally Hedemora Diesel) and years with Shell
Australia.
Whilst working with United Group Rail, I developed a broad and detailed level of
knowledge in the management, supervisory and a hands-on role of locomotive/wagon
build (both new and refurbishments), engine overhaul, engine testing, and all facets of
engine component rebuild and commissioning of both new and refurbished locomotives,
drill rigs, wagons and dump trucks. I have extensive OHS, EMS and QA ISO9001
experience and as part of a cross functional team at DTPP we implemented and gained
accreditation (within an 8 month project) to both OHS 4801 and EMS ISO 14001. As part
of my managerial role at DTPP I built a quality Engine Rebuilding Team that is highly
skilled in GE FDL, ALCO, EMD 645 and 710 engines. Continually worked towards
improvements to the Hedemora VB engine. Part of this was to build a six man Field
Service Team that supported the Hedemora VB 18 cylinder engine (present engines in the
Collins Class Submarines). As both the Service and Workshop Manager, I was
predominantly responsible for all QA, OHS and EMS issues of the workshop, the day to
day running of the workshop, on time delivery of products, commissioning of engines for
the Navy and mining customers. Workshop budgets and meeting the group and

2. company KPI’s in Safety, Environmental, QA, and associated budgets. These exposures
have shown me the necessity of working as a close team member and how important this
is to help maintain a complete and functioning business unit.
In my time at Shell I am part of a small team in the technical division. I have been
exposed to both mine sites and workshops within Rio Tinto, aiding in commissioning of
HME equipment, consulting and preparing reports on engines, gearboxes, transmissions,
final drives and general equipment within the mining business. I work closely with
reliability engineers to improve the life and condition of the critical equipment on fixed
plant and heavy mobile equipment on the mine sites on the West Pilbara. The team I
work with has maintained a LTI free period in the Pilbara for the past 20 years and is a
credit to this team, something we all take personal responsibility for.
My experience demonstrates an excellent working and practical knowledge in Safety,
Quality & understanding customer requirements. Including commissioning, rebuilding to
OEM specification all facets of mining equipment. I am also happy to move out of my
comfort zone. This is due to the experience I have gained over the years working in
General Engineering, the rail business, working with the Australian Navy on Collins
Class Submarines and as a Technical Lubrication Advisor to Rio Tinto and Mining
companies in the Goldfield, I have a very high level of customer service and over this
time I have had the pleasure of dealing with a varied range of business and clients. The
appointments that I have held during my career; I believe display a well-developed
personal qualities including being a self-starter, ability to work as part of a team or
autonomously with integrity, dedication, decisiveness, loyalty, maturity. I possess a high
degree of motivation and self-discipline in busy environments. This is combined with a
practical common sense approach to problem solving and an unceasing drive and ability
to meet challenges of any nature.
