Scylla is a NoSQL database that is fully compatible with Apache Cassandra but can achieve over 1 million operations per second per server node. Scylla achieves this high performance through an architecture that shards operations per CPU core and avoids locks, threads, and context switching between tasks that can cause performance bottlenecks. Scylla also uses a unified database cache in userspace rather than relying on the Linux page cache for better performance and scalability.

Measuring Database Performance on Bare Metal AWS Instances
AWS has recently announced a new type of instance targeted at I/O intensive applications, the i3.metal. That instance does away with the virtualization layer altogether and gives back the resources that would otherwise be used by the hypervisor back to the application.
To use all of those resources — 72 CPUs and 512GB of memory — a database needs to be have the ability to scale both up and out.
In this webinar we will look into the performance of Scylla running in a few of those instances versus Apache Cassandra running in their sweet spot, a larger fleet of smaller instances. We will discuss how much of the gains come from the database design and how much come from the removal of the virtualization layer.

Memcached is an in-memory key-value store that is commonly used to cache database queries for improved performance. It uses a simple get/set interface and does not provide persistent storage. • Applications now serve millions of users in different geo-locations, in different timezones and have to be up and running all the time, with data integrity maintained
• Applications are becoming more distributed with many moving towards cloud computing.
NoSQL plays a vital role in an enterprise application which needs to access and analyze a massive set of data that is being made available on multiple virtual servers (remote based) in the cloud infrastructure and mainly when the data set is not structured. Hence, the NoSQL database is designed to overcome the Performance, Scalability, Data Modelling and Distribution limitations that are seen in the Relational Databases.
