This document discusses data portability and the need for standardized ways to move data between online services. It argues that as users, our personal data like photos, videos and other content should be portable and shareable between services we choose. A standardized system is needed similar to how DHCP allows devices to connect to networks, but for digital identity and data. This would allow automated processing and sharing of data across online services without programming knowledge. Several existing tools and efforts are mentioned as starting to address parts of this challenge around more open APIs and synchronization of data between devices and services.
