In materials sciences, a large amount of research data is generated through a broad spectrum of different
experiments. As of today, experimental research data including meta-data in materials science is often
stored decentralized by the researcher(s) conducting the experiments without generally accepted standards
on what and how to store data. The conducted research and experiments often involve a considerable
investment from public funding agencies that desire the results to be made available in order to increase
their impact. In order to achieve the goal of citable and (openly) accessible materials science experimental
research data in the future, not only an adequate infrastructure needs to be established but the question of
how to measure the quality of the experimental research data also to be addressed. In this publication, the
authors identify requirements and challenges towards a systematic methodology to measure experimental
research data quality prior to publication and derive different approaches on that basis. These methods are
critically discussed and assessed by their contribution and limitations towards the set goals. Concluding, a
combination of selected methods is presented as a systematic, functional and practical quality measurement
and assurance approach for experimental research data in materials science with the goal of supporting
the accessibility and dissemination of existing data sets.

Integration of research literature and data (InFoLiS)Philipp Zumstein
Talk at CNI 2015 Spring Membership Meeting in Seattle on April 14th, 2015, see http://www.cni.org/events/membership-meetings/upcoming-meeting/spring-2015/
Abstract: The goal of the InFoLiS project is to connect research data and publications. Links between data and literature are created automatically by means of text mining and made available as Linked Open Data (LOD) for seamless integration into different retrieval systems. This enables scientists to directly access information about corresponding research data in a literature information system, and, vice versa, it is possible to directly find different interpretations and analyses in the literature of the same research data. In our talk, we will describe our methods for generating the links and give insight into the Linked Data infrastructure including the services we are currently building. Most importantly, we will detail how our solutions can be used by other institutions and invite all interested participants to discuss with us their ideas and thoughts on the requirements for these services to ensure broad interoperability with existing systems and infrastructures. InFoLiS is a joint project by the GESIS – Leibniz Institute for the Social Sciences, Cologne, Mannheim University Library, and Mannheim University supported by a grant from the DFG – German Research Foundation.

The International Journal of Engineering & Science is aimed at providing a platform for researchers, engineers, scientists, or educators to publish their original research results, to exchange new ideas, to disseminate information in innovative designs, engineering experiences and technological skills. It is also the Journal's objective to promote engineering and technology education. All papers submitted to the Journal will be blind peer-reviewed. Only original articles will be published.
Social media-based systems: an emerging area of information systems research ...Nurhazman Abdul Aziz
This article presents a review of the social media-based systems; an emerging
area of information system research, design, and practice shaped by social media phenomenon. Social media-based system (SMS) is the application of a wider range of social software and social media phenomenon in organizational and non-organization context to facilitate every day interactions. To characterize SMS, a total of 274 articles (published during 2003–2011) were analyzed that were classified as computer science information system related in the Web of Science data base and had at least one social media phenomenon related keyword—social media; social network analysis; social network; social network site; and social network system. As a result, we found four main research streams in SMS research dealing with: (1) organizational aspect of SMS, (2) non-organizational aspect of SMS, (3) technical aspect of SMS, and (4) social as a tool. The results indicates that SMS research is fragmented and has not yet found way into the core IS journals, however, it is diverse and interdisciplinary in nature. We also proposed that unlike the
conventional and socio-technical IS where information is bureaucratic, formal, bounded within the intranet, and tightly controlled by organizations; in the SMS context, information is social, informal, boundary-less (i.e. boundary is within the internet), has less control, and more sharing of information may lead to higher value/impact.

Cottbus Brandenburg University of Technology Lecture series on Smart RegionsCritically Assembling Data, Processes & Things: Toward and Open Smart CityJune 5, 2018
This lecture will critically focus on smart cities from a data based socio-technological assemblage approach. It is a theoretical and methodological framework that allows for an empirical examination of how smart cities are socially and technically constructed, and to study them as discursive regimes and as a large technological infrastructural systems.
The lecture will refer to the research outcomes of the ERC funded Programmable City Project led by Rob Kitchin at Maynooth University and will feature examples of empirical research conducted in Dublin and other Irish cities.
In addition, the lecture will discuss the research outcomes of the Canadian Open Smart Cities project funded by the Government of Canada GeoConnections Program. Examples will be drawn from five case studies namely about the cities of Edmonton, Guelph, Ottawa and Montreal, and the Ontario Smart Grid as well as number of international best practices. The recent Infrastructure Canada Canadian Smart City Challenge and the controversial Sidewalk Lab Waterfront Toronto project will also be discussed.
It will be argued that no two smart cities are alike although the technological solutionist and networked urbanist approaches dominate and it is suggested that these kind of smart cities may not live up to the promise of being better places to live.
In this lecture, the ideals of an Open Smart City are offered instead and in this kind of city residents, civil society, academics, and the private sector collaborate with public officials to mobilize data and technologies when warranted in an ethical, accountable and transparent way in order to govern the city as a fair, viable and livable commons that balances economic development, social progress and environmental responsibility. Although an Open Smart City does not yet exist, it will be argued that it is possible.

Operation “Blue Star” is the only event in the history of Independent India where the state went into war with its own people. Even after about 40 years it is not clear if it was culmination of states anger over people of the region, a political game of power or start of dictatorial chapter in the democratic setup.
The people of Punjab felt alienated from main stream due to denial of their just demands during a long democratic struggle since independence. As it happen all over the word, it led to militant struggle with great loss of lives of military, police and civilian personnel. Killing of Indira Gandhi and massacre of innocent Sikhs in Delhi and other India cities was also associated with this movement.
