This document provides an overview of Dansk Kulturarv, a Danish cultural heritage project led by DR, the Danish public broadcaster. The project aims to digitize and provide public access to DR's extensive archives of TV, radio, and film content dating back to the 1890s. A key goal is making as much content as possible available to as many people as possible. One of Dansk Kulturarv's first products was Bonanza, a popular website that allowed the public to view clips from the archives and vote on their favorite programs. Bonanza engaged many Danish users and helped demonstrate the value of providing access to cultural content.

In this talk we discuss some of the R&D work being done at the Netherlands Institute for Sound and Vision. We endeavour to answer the following questions: What does Sound and Vision do and what kind of collections do they safeguard? What kind of work is being done by their R&D department? What is the current status of multimedia annotation and multimedia retrieval in the archive? In addition we zoom in on the newly arising problem of contextualisation in the archive. How can we make the most of the relations between multiple collections that contain information about the same program, person, or topic? We conclude with a discussion of potential collaboration, and some questions that we would like to answer in future work.

Exploring Cultural Heritage and Value creation - A Case Study of DRâs Cultura...Miriam Lerkenfeld
Â
Written by Tobias Golodnoff / Miriam Lerkenfeld
The objective of the research is to give a theoretical understanding of the value created when digitising a cultural heritage.
This research is grounded in a case study of the Danish Broadcasting Corporationâs Cultural Heritage Project. The project deals with the digitisation of an analogue radio and television collection of more than 500.000 hours of content, and with the work being done after digitisation ensuring archive content in collaboration with other public cultural institutions and the research community becomes available to the public. The project group is an inter-organisational team combining expertise from many places within the organisation.
When establishing a project of this kind, some aspects have significance on the value creation. Findings are, that flexibility is key, and hence, the use of resources within the budget should not be too specific, because it is unpredictable where cost can be cut, or where extra resources will be needed. Also, a scanning process is essential for defining the objectives of future tasks, and focus should not be to solve one problem, but exploring challenges that can be useful for different scenarios.
In addition, findings are that collaboration is a good tool for diffusing digitised cultural heritage, and these collaborations should have a variable, decentralised structure, in order to facilitate different needs and objectives. Another emphasis should be put on the openness towards collaboration partners, so shared value can be created and utilised - benefiting not just the organisations, but society in general. Conclusively, the overall goal when digitising the cultural heritage is always to make it accessible for the users. The conclusion leads to four principle guidelines which are: use is value, transparent boxes, open source collective, flexible frameworks, and project economy.
Finally, a vision is presented, a society where public service is substituted for public resources, constructing a all-encompassing cultural production system with fluid borders and autonomous projects based on a set of clearly defined objectives.
In this presentation we will present the lessons learnt and best practices from an ongoing project (Danish Broadcastings Corporation's Cultural Heritage Project). In short, the project studies how DR as a public broadcaster, together with cultural heritage institutions, could provide more engaging and meaningful experiences for general public and specified user groups on Internet. In practice the project develops new software platforms for cultural heritage, which invite people to join as active participants and co-creators of the archival content, rather than offering a role of a passive spectator and consumer.

Climate impact / sustainability of software testing discussed on the talk. ICT and testing must carry their part of global responsibility to help with the climat warming. We can minimize the carbon footprint but we can also have a carbon handprint, a positive impact on the climate. Quality characteristics can be added with sustainability, and then measured continuously. Test environments can be used less, and in smaller scale and on demand. Test techniques can be used in optimizing or minimizing number of tests. Test automation can be used to speed up testing.

Removing Uninteresting Bytes in Software FuzzingAftab Hussain
Â
Imagine a world where software fuzzing, the process of mutating bytes in test seeds to uncover hidden and erroneous program behaviors, becomes faster and more effective. A lot depends on the initial seeds, which can significantly dictate the trajectory of a fuzzing campaign, particularly in terms of how long it takes to uncover interesting behaviour in your code. We introduce DIAR, a technique designed to speedup fuzzing campaigns by pinpointing and eliminating those uninteresting bytes in the seeds. Picture this: instead of wasting valuable resources on meaningless mutations in large, bloated seeds, DIAR removes the unnecessary bytes, streamlining the entire process.
In this work, we equipped AFL, a popular fuzzer, with DIAR and examined two critical Linux libraries -- Libxml's xmllint, a tool for parsing xml documents, and Binutil's readelf, an essential debugging and security analysis command-line tool used to display detailed information about ELF (Executable and Linkable Format). Our preliminary results show that AFL+DIAR does not only discover new paths more quickly but also achieves higher coverage overall. This work thus showcases how starting with lean and optimized seeds can lead to faster, more comprehensive fuzzing campaigns -- and DIAR helps you find such seeds.

Paper presented at SYNERGY workshop at AVI 2024, Genoa, Italy. 3rd June 2024
https://alandix.com/academic/papers/synergy2024-epistemic/
As machine learning integrates deeper into human-computer interactions, the concept of epistemic interaction emerges, aiming to refine these interactions to enhance system adaptability. This approach encourages minor, intentional adjustments in user behaviour to enrich the data available for system learning. This paper introduces epistemic interaction within the context of human-system communication, illustrating how deliberate interaction design can improve system understanding and adaptation. Through concrete examples, we demonstrate the potential of epistemic interaction to significantly advance human-computer interaction by leveraging intuitive human communication strategies to inform system design and functionality, offering a novel pathway for enriching user-system engagements.
