The student created models with different soil layers to simulate earthquakes and observe how the soils reacted. Topsoil caused buildings to fall over quickly, while clay provided more stability and prevented quick collapse.

We can't put a parachute with all these properties in a small spacecraft because there is not enough space in the spacecraft. One criteria you will need to addresses with your parachute design is the speed and the other is the size of the canopy. Tuesday, February 19, 13

Suspension line length score : suspension line length times four : 10 in. x 4 = 40. Suspension line length score is 40. - 6. Improve design 2 We are going to make the canopy bigger so it can catch more air and create more drag. We will make the canopy 15 inches in diameter. Tuesday, February 19, 13
- 7. Plan design 2 Canopy area score : 15 + 15 = 30. Canopy area score is 30. Suspension line length score : 10 x 4 = 40. Suspension line length score is 40. Total parachute packing score : 30 +. 40 = 70. We are mission ready. Tuesday, February 19, 13

- 9. Share Our parachute fell slower because the canopy could catch more air and it created more drag which makes it slower. We can improve our parachute even more by changing the canopy material or making the suspension lines longer. We can use the engineering design process to solve other problems such as when we want to make an invention, model or building, we can use the engineering process to help us. Tuesday, February 19, 13
