This document discusses an interdisciplinary project analyzing Portuguese literary texts using close reading and geographic information systems (GIS). The project involves students and academics from various fields collaborating to analyze excerpts from over 190 literary works published between 1843-2012. Over 4,000 excerpts have been added to a shared database along with metadata on space, time, and meaning. GIS is used to visualize spatial and temporal patterns in how locations like Lisbon are represented over different historical periods. The project website and two published papers are cited that discuss analyzing representations of wolves and urban space in Lisbon literature through the digital tools.
