The final slideshow I created for my graduate-level digital storytelling course to showcase my scriptwriting and voiceover skills. I also used the software Make Beliefs Comix to create simple visuals that accompany the story.
S- “Man am I glad I did extra stretches this morning. This class was tough!”
M- “I’ll say, Thomas seemed especially motivated to train us today. Oh, speaking of whom, here he comes now.”
T- “My stellar pupils, I’m glad I caught up to you. I know you must be exhausted but I have fantastic news to share before you leave!”
S- “Well don’t leave us hanging!”
M- *laughs* “Yeah, you look just about ready to leap over the moon up there.”
T- “Two words, kids, and remember them well: show biz. I’m offering you a chance to shine on live television with the wonderful folks of ‘Dance-off’!
S- “No way! Maia and I were totally hooked on the first season!”
M- “It was so hard to root for just one person. Everyone was amazingly talented!”
T- “Indeed, though the bar would be set even higher – and I don’t mean the one back in the studio – if I could show you both off to the judges. If you’re interested, I’ll get you registered, and you’d have a month to prepare for the audition. However, only one of you will be selected, so it’s time to put those friendship bracelets aside and bring out the sharp claws!” *laughs*
M- “He’s just being silly. But I do think it’s worth a shot. What about you, Sebastian?”
S- “Of course! This is the first major gig to reach Feather Boa, and we have loads of potential, so why not put it to the test? But it’s not like we’ll suddenly become bitter enemies or anything like that.”
M- “Nah, and besides, it’s only one show. There will always be others. The important thing is we’re getting out there and pushing our limits.”
S- “Exactly! Now how’s about we go grab something to eat before we head home?”
S- “I wonder if Mai has decided on her act yet. I got an idea last night for an acro routine and I’ll need her opinion on it. Huh, there she is...with Penelope?”
P- “...well if you want to do a tap dance you should develop exercises for rhythm and coordination. I can help you with that on weekends if you’d like!”
M- “Sounds great, thank you so much!”
S- “...that answers my question, I guess.”
M- “Morning, Bastian!”
S- “Oh, hi, girls.”
P- “I was just helping Mai come up with her routine. Won’t this be such an exciting audition, what with your little newfound rivalry and all?”
S- “Yeah, nice to know you two are ganging up on me.”
M- *laughs* you’re worse than Thomas! So, listen, Penny and I are bit busy, but I was wondering if you wanted to get some ice-cream later? I could really go for one more before we have to swear off all goodies for the month!”
S- *pauses* “...Can’t. I got an acro routine planned out, so I’m going to get started on it after class.”
M- “Wow, already? How diligent! Just don’t go overboard, okay? Talk later!”
S- “Don’t go overboard, okay – of course she would say that, she doesn’t want me to do well! Some friend she turned out to be, well Maia there better be no hard feelings when I get on the show! Just you wait.”
M- “Hey Bastian, wait up!”
S- “Hi, Maia. Wasn’t expecting to see you here.”
M- *laughs incredulously* “I could say the same to you! As soon as class ended you got out of there faster than a roadrunner.”
S- “Oh, well I’m meeting my cousin here. We got tickets to this safe dance seminar at the cinema.”
M- “Why didn’t you just say so! Have fun and tell me all about it tomorrow, okay?”
S- “See you around.”
M- “Uh...bye?”
P- “Oh no, Mai, don’t be upset. You’ll get it eventually!”
M- “It’s not that... It’s Bastian. He’s been distant these past few weeks, and I have no idea why!”
P- “I’d hate to think he’s trying to sabotage you somehow, but you should wait until after the audition to confront him. Right now, you really should focus on timing your steps. You could’ve tripped back there, you know?"
M- *takes deep breathe* “You’re right. Let’s run that last sequence again.”
T- “Just look at the dazzle in those judges’ eyes! I hope you’ve been practicing, my boy, because Maia is proving to be your greatest challenge yet.”
S- *mumbles at first* “Yeah, she’s actually winning them over...uh, I’d never disappoint you, teach, or Feather Boa!”
M- “Ah!”
*the judges gasp*
S- “MAIA, NO!”
T- “I’ll call the ambulance! Sebastian, fetch some ice and bandages while we get her comfortable, pronto!”
M- “Thank you. I shouldn’t say it, but...I didn’t think you’d do this for me.”
S- “Mai, it’s the least I could do. Just...seeing you work with someone else on your act really smarts, you know?”
M- “What?! Bastian, I wasn’t even thinking about you, at least until I realized you were ignoring me. Seems like we both had things to sort through.”
S- “I’m sorry, Mai. Honestly, who knows what’ll happen to me out there, if you of all people managed to injure yourself.”
M- *laughs* “Aren’t you the defeatist? You have nothing to worry about.”
S- “What about you?”
M- “I’ll be cheering you on in spirit, duh. In between winces of pain, anyway. Oh, the paramedics are here, time for me to make my grand exit, and for you to make me proud!”
J#1 - “Well Mr. Sebastian, I must say that it was quite close. However, your technique prevented you from meeting the same fate as Miss Maia, and as you know this is a crucial skill to have in professional dance.”
J#2 - “We believe you have what it takes to compete on “Dance-off”. What do you and Mr. Thomas say to that?”
S- “All right!” *Thomas cheers*
M- “Thanks for being here, Bastian. Physiotherapy sucks.”
S- “Ah, it’s nothing. I have time to kill before I become famous.”
M- “Easy there, pal. You and I still haven’t had a proper dance-off of our own.”
S- “I know, and soon, you’ll be ready for anything.”
M- “I could do without the cold shoulder from you, though.”
S- “I’ll be sure to keep my head cool next time.”
