architectural
competition
A competition among the
students of the forth
year. The brief was to
design an auditorium
next to the student union
building of Chalmers.
“A long and elegant volume
redefines an empty square
into an active piazza,
where Chalmers speaks to
the city.
The volume communicates
with the hill in a
gracious way, leaving its
essence intact. Carefully
Contextualised, the
building enhances the
Chalmers spirit by using
existing architectural
qualities, it smoothly
relates with the
surrounding. Its simple
volumes and common
building materials allows
usable spaces and high
quality architecture.”
Movement over site.
Respecting the hill and creating
possibility of movements behind.
A piazza that leaks out.
Volume that communicates with the
existing auditorium entrance.
A volume that is aliened don’t
close the piazza.
Respecting the hill and letting
the hill flow in to the rooftop.
Adding the auditorium roof
behind the piazza closes it even
more.
By letting the volume go past
and with help of the trees the
piazza becomes enclosed.

In Progress
The thesis focuses on
the development of a new
CNC prefabricated open-
source building system
with the main aim of
reducing the cutting time
and material usage while
providing medium scale
adaptability. The process
started analysing and
criticizing the existing
Wikihouse system. It
proceeded creating various
test models in order to
test the structure, the
connections between the
different parts and the
ease of assembly. The final
result will be a ready to
build system composed of
simple components free
for everyone to use, build
and improve.

Medium scale adaptabilitySystem AccessibilityMaterial usage and fabrication time
3.5 plywood sheets per square meter
6 minutes average cutting time per sheet
The system can be expanded in width and
length. The 4.2 m span allows to have space
for internal corridors.
To reduce plywood usage the design of
each piece in each component is designed
according to the maximum cutting surface
area. This means that the different parts can
easily fill a sheet.
It is all based by dividing the panel in smaller
proportional modules from 15x15 cm to
60x240 cm.
To reduce cutting time the pieces have simple
and straight lines.
The system offers a span of 4.2 meters which
is created by combining 2 plywood sheets in
length.
The structure can expand in both direction
leaving a 1.2 meters passage for internal
movements.

The system offers a ready to use
building system, not based on
the whole construction as an
element but rather based on single
components.
This provide an easy to use and
safe system that works directly and
the people still have the freedom to
choose.
At the same time the system is open
source allowing anyone to make
changes and adapt it to special
needs.

The main aim is to design
a first step toward a
densification. The ambition
is letting this first step
increase flow through the
site overcoming the many
barriers. The main intuition
for the intervention is
to create a huge urban
furniture(urban element)
in order to enhance not only
the physical connection
but also the visual.
Breaking the linearity by
establishing a new and
strong direction, the new
element is perceived as new
landmark by strengthening
the existing flow.
The element addressing
different function
(bridge, tram stop etc.)
is still perceived as a
single element by using
a simple shape repeated
along the way. The square
is a shape that can be
easily manipulated but
still be read as part of
the same unit. Different
circumstances and functions
result in different uses
of the shape.

The overall aim of the project
is to provide a vision for
a possible development
of Sanden island with the
objective of establishing a
diverse community part of a
sustainable environment.
Habitative units are the base
of the whole composition,
measuring 5 x 11m. All
units are designed in wood
taking advantage of the
cross lam technology which
enables a solid structure.
The units make the blocks
that are designed according
the dimensions of the town
centre. The average dimension
is 100x100m. The block
composition is standard and
consists of a ground floor,
a concrete belt, acting
as a protection against
flooding and at the same
time, provides different
services and communal area
residents have access to.
Dwellings are envisioned
in a system of communal and
recreational areas that work
as a link between residents.
The communal are designed
to engage residents with
multifunctional spaces.

The apartments
They are affordable, thanks
to the industrialisation of the
simple and quick construction
process. Every components is
prefabricated, except for the
foundations. The apartments do
not have outdoor private spaces,
this is why was important to
create a common space where
all the residents, from students
to families, can meet and enjoy
the view from the building. The
inner court is a 13 stories
greenhouse that offers,
through large glass openings, an
incredible view over the city.
These common glazed spaces,
double or triple the height,
are equipped with a suspended
net where residents can relax
surrounded by green walls on
the sides, in the comfort of a
well ventilated indoor space,
enjoyable all year around.

Social sustainability
The housing block does its best
to adapt to the fourth dimension:
time. The main prefabricated
concrete structure divides
the space in units of about
30 m2 (7x4.3m) each. Units
can be single or multiple to
create larger spaces. The whole
composition is made by a simple
yet flexible system, which allows
the external and internal skins
to be modified as preferred
according to inhabitant’ needs.
Exterior panels, fixed in a
secondary wooden structure, can
be arranged as solid walls or
accommodate windows of different
sizes. This feature makes the
building “alive”.
Ecological sustainability
The building is designed as a
13-floor high greenhouse that
stores the heat from the sun.
Once the heat is trapped in the
green house, it is then stored
by the many vegetated walls
and slowly released into the
apartments.

Taboè is a cool double
seats office table with
a convenient storage
under the table top. The
storage under the table is
great to keep everything
in place. The one in the
middle is used for the
technical things that
don’t need to be moved
often like cables and hard
drives. The front one is
easily accessible just
by pulling the tabletop
up; awesome to keep a
clean desk while having
all you need with you. If
you fell like drawing, no
worries, just put away the
keyboard and you’re good
to go. The tabletop is
divided in four sections
for easy handle, delivery
and, of course, to access
your stuff. If one of
them gets ruined you can
always twist it over and
if you’re brave enough
you could also use one
face as a cutting/working
surface.

The b&b is located in
the proximity of Quito
airport. The program
consist of providing six
rooms, a restaurant and
a small apartment for
the custodian. The main
clients wish was to avoid
the dormitory feeling. The
inner garden is conceived
as relaxing space and it
is directly connected
with all the functions
the b&b provides. At the
same time the restaurant
needed to be recognized
from the main road. The
restaurant then became
a big void with its own
roof directly correlating
with the small scale of
the garden and the bigger
scale of the main road on
the other side.
