February 3, 2011 Volume: 1 | Issue: 389| November 1, 2010 INDIAN MARKET 02-Feb 01-Feb % Change COMMENTARY BSE Sensex 18,090 18,022 0.38 INDIA NSE Nifty 5,432 5,417 0.27 After a solid start and a promising day,the bears re-asserted their supremacy in the last hour of trade BSE Midcap 6,754 6,756 (0.03) to cut short the dominance of the bulls through most part of the trading session the close was highly BSE Smallcap 8,362 8,356 0.07 disappointing with the key stock indices ending just a tad higher owing to a sudden decline in the last half an hour or so. The Indian markets ended the day with modest gains, snapping a five-day losing Nifty Junior 10,742 10,737 0.04 streak. The benchmark indices took an ugly turn in late trading led by weakness in select index CNX Midcap 7,756 7,776 (0.26) heavyweights like L&T, Hero Honda, Bajaj Auto, Cipla and SBI.However, bucking the negative trend were stocks such as RIL, ICICI Bank, TCS, Tata Motors, Bharti and Sterlite Industries.The BSE Sensex gained 68 points to close at 18,090 and the NSE Nifty was down 14 points to end at GLOBAL MARKETS 02-Feb 01-Feb % Change 5,432.The broader indices under-performed their frontline peers, dragging the market breadth down Dow Jones Ind (USA) 12,042 12,040 0.02 in late trade. Nasdaq Composite(USA 2,749 2,751 (0.07) The market breadth was marginally positive. Out of 2979 stocks traded on the BSE, there were 1421 S&P 500 (USA) 1,304 1,308 (0.31) advancing stocks as against 1382 declines. FTSE 100 (UK) 5,996 5,958 0.64 DAX (Germany) 7,184 7,184 0.00 GLOBAL MARKETS. Nikkei 225 (Tokyo) 10,457 10,274 1.78 Stocks were mixed Wednesday, a day after the Dow Jones industrial average closed at its highest level in two and a half years.Most U.S. stocks fell, with the Standard & Poor’s 500 Index dropping Hang Seng (Hong Kong 23,908 23,483 1.81 from near its highest valuation since June, as earnings reports from companies including Broadcom Shanghai Comp (China) 2,799 2,791 0.29 Corp. and Aflac Inc. disappointed investors and anti-government protests in Egypt worsened.
