HSS rolls provide higher groove lifetime
compared with cast iron rolls, as well as
higher resistance to thermal or mechanical
shocks compared with tungsten carbide

HSS rolls consist of an inner core layer made of
spheroidal graphite cast iron and an outer layer
of high speed steel material that contains a high
amount of alloy elements such as Va, W, Cr, Mo,
Ni, etc.
