'DAB Digital Radio Switchover In The UK: Q&A' by Grant GoddardGrant Goddard
The document discusses the digital radio switchover in the UK and provides answers to common questions on the topic. It makes the following key points:
1) There will be no switchover to DAB as the dominant radio platform, as the government has abandoned plans for a DAB radio switchover.
2) The push for DAB radio was never consumer-led and ignored consumer behaviors and preferences.
3) Investment in DAB radio has significantly harmed the UK radio industry by diverting funds away from content production.

Which?, a UK consumer advocacy organization, published a briefing paper in February 2011 titled "Digital Radio Switchover in 2015? Consumer Led Or Not At All". The paper argued that the transition to digital radio in the UK must be consumer-led, not industry-led, in order to succeed. Which? set out several criteria that must be met before a digital radio switchover date can be announced, including minimum DAB uptake levels, coverage equivalent to FM, and DAB being standard in new cars. However, the UK government's current digital radio policy does not fully align with Which?'s consumer-focused recommendations.

1) He believes the design of Ontario's cap and trade system effectively protects trade-exposed industries from competitive disadvantages, but that more details are needed on how revenue will be spent on "green projects".
2) Federal infrastructure investments could increase productivity and competitiveness if funds are used to transform passenger and freight rail, but early spending has focused more on repairs.

Web2.0 for the Public Sector, Principles, Issues and ChallengesPete Martin
Pete Martin discusses the principles, issues, and challenges of using Web 2.0 for public organizations. He notes that while tools are currently free, Web 2.0 requires significant resources in time and effort. Key challenges include loss of message control, non-expert commentary, and ensuring inclusion as some groups may be left behind digitally. Overall, Web 2.0 demands that attention and influence be earned through engagement rather than paid for as in traditional media.
1) The document discusses how digital technology has transformed communication and daily life in Kenya through innovations like mobile money and instant money transfers.
2) It then summarizes the Kenyan government's plans to migrate television broadcasting from analog to digital, which would allow multiple channels to be transmitted through a single signal distributor to reduce costs.
3) However, it notes that while digital television may provide better picture and sound quality, the average household may be unwilling to spend up to KSH 4,000 on set-top boxes, so the government will need to do more to incentivize the transition.

Additional incentives from the government are suggested to drive adoption of digital TV.
Information's role in disruption cycles and the exploitation of tipping pointsMark Albala
“The Tipping Point”, written in 2000 prior to the digital economy, described a means for forging disruptions through the exploitation of information. Having a keen understanding of the information you have at your disposal and a keen awareness of the attempted disruptions through viral social media and other means is critical for survival in the digital economy. This writing will go over what the tipping point is, how information aligns to the tipping point in the digital economy and what organizations must do now to survive disruptive attempts to dethrone their products and services in the digital economy.

DTT TMT predicts that in 2010 online advertising spending will continue to grow faster than total advertising spending and increase its share of the overall advertising market from around 10% to 15%. While not all online ad categories will see equal growth, search, display, video, social network, and cost-per-action ads are expected to experience the greatest increases. The recession may have accelerated rather than slowed the shift to online as advertisers seek formats where they can better measure effectiveness. Traditional media most at risk of losing share include magazines, newspapers, radio and outdoor advertising, while broadcast and cable TV are expected to be more resilient.
The document discusses Pipeline, a network of digital practitioners employed by local governments in the UK. It started in 2009 as an unconference to share knowledge between local councils. Pipeline aims to help local councils collaborate on building digital services to better engage with citizens. It provides opportunities for councils to either individually buy or build new digital services, or to join together on development projects.
1) The article discusses how media companies need to adapt to the digital age by embracing new technologies and data analytics. Journalists need to learn how to use analytics to better understand their audiences and compete against large tech companies like Facebook and Google.
2) It emphasizes that media outlets should experiment digitally by allocating resources to innovation and keeping digital priorities at the heart of decision making. They also need to produce original, relevant content that motivates audiences.
3) The BBC in particular is expanding its language services, planning to offer programs in 40 languages, while ensuring editorial independence. It trains journalists to think digitally and prioritize platforms like video and mobile.
In the future, all technology will be interconnected to make life easier. By 2025, smart cars that can drive themselves will dominate the market due to added safety and convenience. Smartphones will also continue advancing, with 3D interfaces and health monitoring capabilities, increasing society's dependency on them. Television will evolve as well, with streaming apps like Netflix and Hulu replacing cable and satellite providers as the primary way people watch shows and movies on smart TVs. Overall, emerging technologies will be more integrated and aim to simplify daily tasks.

Rethink Mobile: Mobile Strategy for Product DesignersJonathan Stark
This document provides an overview of a talk on mobile strategy for product designers. The talk discusses how mobile is the most widely adopted technology ever, disrupting industries like entertainment, commerce, education and more through dematerialization. Mobile and the combination of connectivity, cloud computing and smartphones has transformed how people access information and services. Entire industries like newspapers have been disrupted by smaller mobile-focused companies targeting different parts of their business. The speaker argues that mobile disruption could also impact other industries like restaurants that have yet to fully embrace a mobile-first strategy.
Perpetual leadershift - Digital strategy and change management go hand in handJenny Williams
The digital revolution is one of the most disruptive forces now at work in the business world. Transformation in response to this force requires most companies to rethink what digital really means. It is no longer sufficient to think in terms of web sites and other digital assets. Similarly, evolution is now so much more than focusing on managing discrete changes that a particular technical innovation may require, the speed of change requires a far more fluid and dynamic mode of management. This session will look at some of the heroes of the digital age and the key factors that enhance or hamper an organisations ability to rise to the challenge of a constantly evolving business environment.
The future of online government will likely see:
1) Government services becoming more invisible and only contacting citizens when needed to reduce issues or for additional input.
2) Digital technology challenging nation states as corporations and individuals push boundaries, requiring governments to thoughtfully embrace rather than resist digital change.
3) Potential for governments to have live data on public opinions, but also needing to help society progress on issues where majority opinions could hinder equality. Overall, governments must adapt to constant digital transformation and an increasingly networked world.

- Bennett, Coleman & Company Limited (BCCL), India's largest media conglomerate, acquired Virgin Radio from Scottish Media Group for £53.2 million.
- As part of the acquisition, BCCL will re-launch the station under a new name and with a £15 million marketing budget later in 2008, as they did not acquire the rights to continue using the Virgin brand name.
- While Virgin Radio broadcasts nationally on AM radio, its audience is heavily skewed towards London, where it also broadcasts on FM radio. The acquisition value is largely due to the London-wide FM license, which BCCL intends to use to build a successful classic rock station in London.

'The Future Of Digital Radio: Is It 'DAB'?' by Grant GoddardGrant Goddard
This document summarizes the state of digital radio in the UK, focusing on the Digital Audio Broadcasting (DAB) platform. It notes that while DAB was initially heavily invested in and promoted by the radio industry, its growth has stagnated with low consumer adoption rates. Recently many digital-only radio stations on DAB have closed down or reduced services. The viability of the two national DAB multiplexes, operated by Digital One and the upcoming Channel 4 multiplex, are now in serious question as the commercial radio groups reduce their commitments to DAB. The future of DAB and digital radio is uncertain, with a government working group tasked with addressing the issues.
'The Digital One Radio Multiplex: Desperately Seeking Subsidy' by Grant GoddardGrant Goddard
The document discusses the viability of the Digital One radio multiplex in the UK. It notes that Channel 4's decision not to pursue radio plans has left many slots on the multiplex unused, threatening its commercial viability. It suggests the multiplex may need to be transferred to the BBC or Arqiva to ensure its continued operation. It also argues that subsidy will likely be needed in the short term to boost adoption of digital radio and ensure the multiplex's survival, possibly through redirecting funds from the BBC's digital television switchover budget.

Understanding User Needs and Satisfying ThemAggregage
https://www.productmanagementtoday.com/frs/26903918/understanding-user-needs-and-satisfying-them
We know we want to create products which our customers find to be valuable. Whether we label it as customer-centric or product-led depends on how long we've been doing product management. There are three challenges we face when doing this. The obvious challenge is figuring out what our users need; the non-obvious challenges are in creating a shared understanding of those needs and in sensing if what we're doing is meeting those needs.
In this webinar, we won't focus on the research methods for discovering user-needs. We will focus on synthesis of the needs we discover, communication and alignment tools, and how we operationalize addressing those needs.
Industry expert Scott Sehlhorst will:
• Introduce a taxonomy for user goals with real world examples
• Present the Onion Diagram, a tool for contextualizing task-level goals
• Illustrate how customer journey maps capture activity-level and task-level goals
• Demonstrate the best approach to selection and prioritization of user-goals to address
• Highlight the crucial benchmarks, observable changes, in ensuring fulfillment of customer needs
