Semantic Search on Heterogeneous Wiki Systems - wikisym2010Fabrizio Orlandi
This document discusses enabling semantic search across heterogeneous wiki systems by extending the Semantically Interlinked Online Communities (SIOC) ontology to model relevant wiki features. It proposes modeling multi-authoring, categories, tagging, discussions, backlinks, and page versioning in SIOC. It also describes a MediaWiki exporter that generates RDF using the extended SIOC model to expose wiki data and link wiki pages following Linked Data practices.
Semantic search on heterogeneous wiki systems - Wikimania 2010Fabrizio Orlandi
1) The document proposes using Linked Data principles and extending the SIOC ontology to semantically interconnect heterogeneous wiki systems and enable semantic search across them.
2) Key wiki features like categorization, tagging, discussions, and versioning are modeled in the extended SIOC ontology.
3) Plugins are developed for MediaWiki and DokuWiki to export semantic data using the extended SIOC model, allowing semantic queries across wiki platforms.
Semantic Search on Heterogeneous Wiki Systems - ShortFabrizio Orlandi
1) The document discusses a system to enable semantic search across heterogeneous wiki systems using Semantic Web technologies.
2) Key aspects of the system include a common semantic model based on the SIOC ontology to represent wiki structure and contributions, data extractors to translate wiki data to RDF, and an application with a user interface to enable semantic search and browsing across different interlinked wikis.
3) The system was able to semantically search and link information across 5 different wiki sites containing over 3000 articles and 700 users.
This document summarizes how wikis can be used effectively for business collaboration. It explains that wikis allow for easy sharing of documents and information across teams in a way that is simple for non-technical employees. While wikis have challenges to address, leading companies have found success using wikis internally to facilitate information exchange and manage projects. The document recommends wikis for situations requiring centralization and organic organization of corporate information.

The document discusses the impact of the Delta Works project in the Netherlands on coastal engineering developments. The 1953 North Sea flood was a turning point that led to the Delta Works plan to strengthen flood defenses. This massive project constructed dams and barriers across estuaries from the 1950s to the 1980s and significantly reduced flood risk. It also drove innovation in closure techniques, erosion prevention, and other areas of coastal and hydraulic engineering.

Do we need linguistic knowledge for speech technology applications in African...Guy De Pauw
This document discusses approaches to speech synthesis, particularly for under-resourced languages in Africa. It compares rule-based unit selection/concatenative synthesis, which relies on detailed linguistic rules, to HMM-based synthesis, which is data-driven and does not require as much linguistic knowledge. HMM-based synthesis using small amounts of recorded speech can produce intelligible output, making it suitable for rapid development of speech synthesis systems in African languages. The document advocates deploying such systems on mobile devices to provide educational content in local languages.

This document discusses the current state of the digital music industry and provides advice for independent artists to succeed. It notes that digital music sales made up 40% of total music sales in 2009. It recommends that artists directly engage with true fans by connecting with them rather than just promoting their music. The document outlines building a team, developing content to attract fans through different stages, and adding value through limited edition premium offers to compete with free music. It stresses that the key is treating fans as relationships rather than transactions and focusing on high-margin revenue over high-volume, low-margin sales. Direct-to-fan marketing should establish goals, craft offers, create content, and optimize through testing in order to build a base of paying super

This project report deliberates the new activities, methods and technology used in digitization and formation of digital libraries. It set out some key points involved and the detailed plans required in the process, offers pieces of advice and guidance for the practicing Librarians and Information scientists. Digital Libraries are being created today for diverse communities and in different fields e.g. education, science, culture, development, health, governance and so on. With the availability of several free digital Library software packages at the recent time, the creation and sharing of information through the digital library collections has become an attractive and feasible proposition for library and information professionals around the world. The paper ends with a call to integrate digitization into the plans and policies of any institution to maximize its effectiveness.
The proposal seeks $25,000 to initiate an "Open Development Wiki" that would allow development practitioners to openly share and collaborate on development knowledge without restrictions. It would benchmark successful open knowledge platforms like Wikipedia and address current limitations of siloed information sharing. The wiki would be a free, inclusive venue for all interested stakeholders to find each other, share information, and learn from each other through community participation and content contributions. Initial outputs would include wiki guidelines, 50 demonstration pages showcasing its uses, and a launch event for potential partners. The goal is improved information sharing and collaboration among development organizations.
The document discusses setting up a wiki to facilitate knowledge sharing among staff at the Public Library of Vlissingen. It outlines the library's mission to provide tailored services and foster user participation. The library wanted to make better use of staff knowledge and expertise, so it decided to implement a wiki after a knowledge scan found the current intranet was not meeting staff needs. The document then provides details on what a wiki is and why it was chosen, and outlines a six step process for setting up the wiki, including planning, design, testing, launch, management and evaluation.

RDMkit, a Research Data Management Toolkit. Built by the Community for the ...Carole Goble
https://datascience.nih.gov/news/march-data-sharing-and-reuse-seminar 11 March 2022
Starting in 2023, the US National Institutes of Health (NIH) will require institutes and researchers receiving funding to include a Data Management Plan (DMP) in their grant applications, including the making their data publicly available. Similar mandates are already in place in Europe, for example a DMP is mandatory in Horizon Europe projects involving data.
Policy is one thing - practice is quite another. How do we provide the necessary information, guidance and advice for our bioscientists, researchers, data stewards and project managers? There are numerous repositories and standards. Which is best? What are the challenges at each step of the data lifecycle? How should different types of data? What tools are available? Research Data Management advice is often too general to be useful and specific information is fragmented and hard to find.
ELIXIR, the pan-national European Research Infrastructure for Life Science data, aims to enable research projects to operate “FAIR data first”. ELIXIR supports researchers across their whole RDM lifecycle, navigating the complexity of a data ecosystem that bridges from local cyberinfrastructures to pan-national archives and across bio-domains.
The ELIXIR RDMkit (https://rdmkit.elixir-europe.org (link is external)) is a toolkit built by the biosciences community, for the biosciences community to provide the RDM information they need. It is a framework for advice and best practice for RDM and acts as a hub of RDM information, with links to tool registries, training materials, standards, and databases, and to services that offer deeper knowledge for DMP planning and FAIR-ification practices.
Launched in March 2021, over 120 contributors have provided nearly 100 pages of content and links to more than 300 tools. Content covers the data lifecycle and specialized domains in biology, national considerations and examples of “tool assemblies” developed to support RDM. It has been accessed by over 123 countries, and the top of the access list is … the United States.
The RDMkit is already a recommended resource of the European Commission. The platform, editorial, and contributor methods helped build a specialized sister toolkit for infectious diseases as part of the recently launched BY-COVID project. The toolkit’s platform is the simplest we could manage - built on plain GitHub - and the whole development and contribution approach tailored to be as lightweight and sustainable as possible.
In this talk, Carole and Frederik will present the RDMkit; aims and context, content, community management, how folks can contribute, and our future plans and potential prospects for trans-Atlantic cooperation.
Data policy must be partnered with data practice. Our researchers need to be the best informed in order to meet these new data management and data sharing mandates.

Data Science: History repeated? – The heritage of the Free and Open Source GI...Peter Löwe
This document discusses the history and lessons that can be learned from the development of geographic information systems (GIS) and how they relate to the emerging field of data science. It argues that data science may follow a similar path to GIS, and outlines several lessons: (1) the importance of standardization, (2) the benefits of free and open source software in enabling analysis, education and improvement, and (3) the value of communities organized around open science principles of sharing and reuse. It highlights the Open Source Geospatial Foundation as an example of an "umbrella organization" that has supported collaborative development through established best practices around governance, software quality and merit-based participation.

Abstract
The scope of Open Science translates into a collabo-rative, transparent process of dissemination, crea-tion, and transfer of knowledge, accessible to re-search and based on the principles of open access. The different agents of the research process, equipped with a set of information literacy skills, acquire the ability, in print or digital information envi-ronments, and based on their own critical and reflex-ive thinking, to transform information into new knowledge. This article explores the integration of Open Science concepts in information literacy. It presents a theoretical reflection that shows the con-tributions of information literacy in the academic context and in the dynamics of the production of science. It is concluded that information literacy is an essential learning tool for the development of Open Science, enhancing the critical understanding of content, as well as the development and progress of research.

1. O apoio ao ensino e aprendizagem, especificamente na promoção das competências de literacia da informação;
2. O suporte às atividades de investigação e de publicação científica;
3. A gestão organizacional de parcerias e de projetos de cooperação entre bibliotecas;
4. A conceção e disponibilização de serviços, sistemas e espaços que facilitem e potenciem a aprendizagem e a descoberta e gestão da informação.

We’re talking about Vedic Meditation, a form of meditation that has been around for at least 5,000 years. Back then, the people who lived in the Indus Valley, now known as India and Pakistan, practised meditation as a fundamental part of daily life. This knowledge that has given us yoga and Ayurveda, was known as Veda, hence the name Vedic. And though there are some written records, the practice has been passed down verbally from generation to generation.

Overall life span (LS) was 1671.7±1721.6 days and cumulative 5YS reached 62.4%, 10 years – 50.4%, 20 years – 44.6%. 94 LCP lived more than 5 years without cancer (LS=2958.6±1723.6 days), 22 – more than 10 years (LS=5571±1841.8 days). 67 LCP died because of LC (LS=471.9±344 days). AT significantly improved 5YS (68% vs. 53.7%) (P=0.028 by log-rank test). Cox modeling displayed that 5YS of LCP significantly depended on: N0-N12, T3-4, blood cell circuit, cell ratio factors (ratio between cancer cells-CC and blood cells subpopulations), LC cell dynamics, recalcification time, heparin tolerance, prothrombin index, protein, AT, procedure type (P=0.000-0.031). Neural networks, genetic algorithm selection and bootstrap simulation revealed relationships between 5YS and N0-12 (rank=1), thrombocytes/CC (rank=2), segmented neutrophils/CC (3), eosinophils/CC (4), erythrocytes/CC (5), healthy cells/CC (6), lymphocytes/CC (7), stick neutrophils/CC (8), leucocytes/CC (9), monocytes/CC (10). Correct prediction of 5YS was 100% by neural networks computing (error=0.000; area under ROC curve=1.0).

2. Medical Information Library & Knowledge: MILK or discovery of scientific
information on health through social labeling: Connotea and CiteUlike
1. Introduction
agenda 2. Milk Project: development
stages
3. Integration of the platform
Citeulike MILK
4. Conclusions
3. Context
• The Web 2.0 or second generation is based
primarily on user communities that foster
collaboration and exchange of information.
• Many of these technologies fall within the scope
of the freeware and free software based on
open source.
• One of the basic characteristics of 2.0
applications is precisely the reuse of content.
• Many of them are based on this principle as in
the case of mashups.
3
4. Medical Information Library & Knowledge: MILK
The starting point of this virtual project has its origin in the Summer
School of the University of Salamanca "Virtual Library of Health
Sciences”, which will soon celebrate its 5th edition, in which
participated as speakers members of this collaborative platform.
4
5. Milk Project: development stages
• The project involves collaboration between different libraries and
research centers from different parts of Spain and Portugal
that share a common interest: to have a cooperative information
system.
• The project involves the Library of Health Sciences at the
Universities of Salamanca and the Autonomous University of
Barcelona, Hospital de Torrevieja (Alicante) and the Higher
Institute of Applied Psychology (ISPA) in Lisbon, Portugal.
5
6. •The first phase of the project was the creation of
a common information portal called "Open Medical Library”, on
information service cooperative 2.0 that uses a technology
platform for free: Netvibes. www.netvibes.com
•Netvibes brings together favourite widgets, websites, blogs,
email accounts, social networks, search engines, instant
messaging, RSS feeds, photos, videos, podcasts...
•Despite this complexity of domestic technological network, one
of the basic features of Netvibes is the rapid development of
content and ease of use.
6
7. Netvibes application was developed by Tariq Krim in 2005 and
is one of the pioneers of the tools offered by Web 2.0 style custom
desktops iGoogle provided, although it differs from other
applications and has a private and a public part.
Private Public
7
8. Netvibes
Key features of Netvibes are:
• Quick and simple. Starting in minutes.
• Compatible. The UWA widgets are compatible with all major widget
platforms (iGoogle, Windows Vista, Apple Dashboard, Live.com,
iPhone, Opera, blogs, MySpace, etc.).
• Simple and elegant. CSS and JavaScript templates to quickly
create beautiful environments.
• Adaptable. Platform supporting a large number of technologies.
8
9. Visually Netvibes
Visually Netvibes is organized into tabs or flaps. Each flap is an
aggregator of various modules and widgets easily displaced, thanks to the
AJAX language, which allows the user to organize and design the
modules of your choice.
9
10. Netvibes
An area known as the Health Sciences is particularly sensitive
to date information and quality, so an application like
Netvibes is a key competitive edge in obtaining results
quickly and easily, requiring by the other hand, a minimum
financial investment of time and professional dedication.
Netvibes as a multi-tool:
• Management
• Compilation
• Dissemination of information.
10
11. The second phase of the project was to have
a shared database to facilitate us to incorporate information
resources easily by all members of the community MILK.
o So we decided to continue using 2.0 applications such as
Connotea and CiteuLike.
o Which on the one hand didn’t represent a financial investment
from our part, and favoured integration with the platform
developed in Netvibes.
11
12. Social Reference Managers
Organization
CiteuLike, Connotea,
BibSonomy, managers
2collab are "social reference
managers”.
The fundamental value of
these resources is the ability
to collect information
automatically and this is
shared by other users with
common interests. Collaboration
After the analysis Milk considered that
The basic principle of these
the tool that best matched our needs
tools is the social tagging or
folksonomy, literally "the and goals, their versatility of
classification drawn up by the information management and their
people”. many features was CiteuLike . 12
13. CiteuLike is a system open to
any person subject to
registration, which allows to
preserve, manage and share
references online scientific
and technical documents.
One of the features CiteuLike
offers is that, collects all
the metadata of the
document. www.citeulike.org
13
14. References can also be captured and integrated from accepted
sources. CiteuLike offers a wide range of publishers and content
distributors, and commercial open:
14
16. Features
• CiteuLike, like Netvibes,
has a public space
(CiteUlike) and a private
citeulike MyCiteUlike
called with different options
and functions, and absolute
permeability between a
profile and the other.
• Another simple way to add
a record is through the
URL, ISBN, DOI or
PubMed, PMID number.
• In turn export opportunities
and import from RIS format
references. 16
18. Actions
SHARE: This application allows you to forward a
reference to any user that follows us, which we follow,
or a group, and even spread through Twitter.
FOLLOW or WATCHLISTS: In this way, once
incorporated into the document will be visible to all,
especially those from our group whom we follow
through.
NEIGHBOURS: Within those who use labels, the
majority also uses us. It thereby creates a shared
space where we can follow what they are reading
researchers closest to us.
CiteGeist: These are some of the popular articles
posted to CiteuLike in the last 7 days.
18
19. 1. Interaction and Netvibes CiteuLike
CiteuLike RSS feeds. You can easily incorporate Netvibes
modules: subscribe to our new information, about specific labels, a
user or user group.
19
20. 2. Netvibes CiteuLike integration through widgets.
A widget is a small APPLICATION or module that performs a
specific function, usually visual, within other applications or
operating systems.
There are developing at present, two widgets for Netvibes
CiteuLike.
a. Search in CiteuLike, which allows querying on CiteULike.
b. CiteuLike compiling the latest additions to the system overall.
20
23. Conclusions
By incorporating and integrating these two tools of Web 2.0
freware (Connotea and Citeulike) the cooperation between
participating libraries has increased and it was provided a new
channel that promotes and facilitates the discovery of scientific
information, that allows any member of MILK the possibility of
receiving and sharing information through the platform Netvibes.
This is a simple, flexible and agile work that allows us to work
together to broaden the base of the system without imposing a
significant effort on the part of each of the participating members.
Netvibes provides a good performance in terms of cost
efficiency to the user community of our institutions.
