Case Study: Cyhi the Prynce’s Mixtape Release
Challenge:
Cyhi lacked a cohesive strategy and wanted his mixtape to be more successfully branded than
his previous projects. He also wanted the cross-country tour to be thematically connected to
the album.
Solution:
 Originally titled “Black History Project” believing that the title might alienate many
listeners, I recommended a minimalist design with just the word “Hystori.” This change
would generate a greater impact and stand out from the other covers on the website. I
also thought the misspelled wording might help tailor the project to fit his brand and
more effectively relate to his target market.
 This allowed him to title his tour “Hystori Tour” to work in unison with the mixtape title.
 He kept this minimalist approach for his tour posters as well as his additional concert
announcements on social media.
Result:
 The mixtape became the most successful mixtape of his career with over 600,000
downloads
 The mixtape was rewarded “Gold” status by Datpiff
 By all industry barometers, the tour was a great success
 He decided to title his following project “BHP 2: N.A.A.C.P” and used the same
minimalistic approach to branding the mixtape, which became his second most viewed
project
