Company: Linde Group- Linde Headquarters
Duration: August 09 - Feb 10
Position: eApplication Delivery Specialist
Project: My Account 2 Application

Background
The Initiative Management (GAP) tool is a global BI application that is used by the Growth & Performance team,
as well as RBU’s and GBU/BA’s to keep track of improvement initiatives being undertaken within the Linde
Group. The initiatives are updated (minimum quarterly) and the financial impact tracked as they progress
through the phases of idea generation, planning, sign-off, implementation and benefits realisation. Following the
Linde/BOC merger the tool has been used to track €250 million PMI synergies and is now being used to track all
efficiency improvement initiatives including the €650-800 million HPO savings target. In total there are currently
more that 3300 initiatives that are recorded and tracked in the system.
Whilst the tool functionally satisfies the requirements of the business there are a number of challenges
associated with the technical design of the application. This relates to the fact that this tool was initially built on
top of an existing balanced scorecard (BSC) solution and has been through a series of modifications as the scope
of the tool has changed over the last few years. This has resulted in a large amount of bespoke coding in the
application (resulting in a significant deviation from standard SAP). These challenges often result in the following:
− Unsatisfactory application response times (in the tracking and the reporting area)
− The need for complex technical solutions for enhancements to the system (resulting in large development
    times with increased risk)
− Limitations around reporting from the tool due to the fragment application back-end
− A large number of support issues relating to the application (as many as 14 users issues/questions raised
    each month)

Responsibilities
 Requirement Analysis & System Design.
 Application Architecture and the WebDynpro Development Component Design.
 RFC model design and implementation
 Creation of NWDI Tracks, WebDynpro development components and creation of JCO destinations.
 Worked in all the aspects of this application starting from requirement gathering, designing the application,
coding, unit testing and bug fixing.
 UI Design and development in SAP WebDynpro.
 Involved in the effort estimation required for the application.
 Project Status Tracking and addressing concerns raised by client team.
 Reviewing Technical Specifications.

Project: SAP SRM PO Application

Background
Approving managers log into SRM monthly and run the new report. Managers review the report on screen in
SRM and approve each line item on the report by some means of a check box or radio button. Unapproved line
items remain blank or un-checked. The approve/non-approve steps occur entirely inside SRM [i.e., documented
in SRM]. Since the approval process occur inside SRM, the report and approval record must be retained for future
reference. The record of the approval at line item level and a copy of the report itself are recalled at any time
from SRM for subsequent review as necessary. The process occurs monthly, at the end of the current period. The
mail is generated from the SRM system and routed to the manager’s inbox (outlook or LN). There are two
buttons “APPROVE” and “REJECT”. On clicking either of the two buttons the user is redirected to a NTLM secured
web page. The parameters that are transferred are NT ID, PO NO and STATUS. Now the NT id is mapped to the
SAP ID. The NTLM authenticated web page calls a web service that calls the RFC to update/modify. The web
application is based on Java WebDynpro, Web Services and EJB 2.1.

Responsibilities
 Requirement Gathering and Analysis
 EJB implementation and integration with WD.
 Understanding Business flows
 Preparation of Technical design based on Functional Design.
 Designing and development of new screens using Java WebDynpro.

                                      Email Id : som.iiitk@gmail.com
Background
SMDL
The application gives to PMI employees the possibility to raise global master data code requests to the Data
Management Organization (DMO) for creation, modification and deletion of SMDL global master data. The users
can track any request in the system and manage their own requests. The users (requestors) of this application are
potentially any PMI employee form any PMI location.
The SMDL System is highly integrated with other global and local applications (SAP and Non-SAP). The integration
is done either through SAP ALE or middleware technology for non-SAP Systems. SMDL uses a middleware system
(EAI) to distribute global master data to non-SAP systems.
IMDL
IMDL application implemented in order to serve two purposes:
     1. Manage third party account creation/transfer/exit: The affiliate helpdesk does not create anymore the
entry/account directly in Active Directory. The helpdesk creates the entries in the IMDL through a custom
developed SAP screen through PMI intranet (consultant entry/exit form). (Alternatively the manager could
directly fill the consultant entry/exit sheet within the IMDL if wished by the affiliate).
    2. Manage Application Access: This part of the application is for requesting roles for various PMI SAP
    systems.

Responsibilities
 Involved in the support and enhancement of the application.
 Creation of the technical specifications for the new enhancements.
 UI development in SAP Java WebDynpro.
 Project Status Tracking and addressing concerns raised by client team.

Background
PMI New Horizon project is a sub module of the PMI project. This project is associated primarily with the HR
related information process for the employees of PMI. This project consists of Portal in a very significant role
which facilitates Managers to effectively manage their reportees, timesheet, payroll management, bank account
details, etc. All these are available through self service portal which has been developed in a very efficient and
effective manner
These forms are used by the PMI employees to raise requests for position request, public training and several
others. Public Change Requests enable managers to request changes to employee data quickly and easily, using
forms in a portal environment. However various approval processes can be linked to those requests before a
personnel administrator can update the data in the SAP system using predefined processing functions. These e-
forms are developed using ISRs (Internal Service Request) framework. Briefly speaking ISRs make it possible for
occasional users to request services in the company intranet, in an extranet, or in the Internet using request
forms that do not require any special knowledge of SAP R/3.
Apart from the portal development there were ESS/MSS based WebDynpro developments the details of which
are given as follows: The Employee Self Service facility provides employee with a single point of access to
Personal Information, which contains the Banks, Personal Data and Address. This involves developing Employee
Portal for ESS/HR activities for PMI employees

Responsibilities
 Understanding Business flows
 Requirement Analysis & System Design.
 Involved in the development, support and enhancement of the application.
 Creation of the technical specifications for the new enhancements.
 Development in ISR Framework Technology and integration with the SAP EP.
 Version control with DTR.

  • 3. SOMNATH PARAMANICK 13/2/2, Kalicharan Dutta Road, P.O.-Sarsuna, Kolkata-700061 Cell No : +91-09831034127 Email Id : som.iiitk@gmail.com Company: Linde Group- Linde Headquarters Duration: August 09 - Feb 10 Position: eApplication Delivery Specialist Project: My Account 2 Application Background The Initiative Management (GAP) tool is a global BI application that is used by the Growth & Performance team, as well as RBU’s and GBU/BA’s to keep track of improvement initiatives being undertaken within the Linde Group. The initiatives are updated (minimum quarterly) and the financial impact tracked as they progress through the phases of idea generation, planning, sign-off, implementation and benefits realisation. Following the Linde/BOC merger the tool has been used to track €250 million PMI synergies and is now being used to track all efficiency improvement initiatives including the €650-800 million HPO savings target. In total there are currently more that 3300 initiatives that are recorded and tracked in the system. Whilst the tool functionally satisfies the requirements of the business there are a number of challenges associated with the technical design of the application. This relates to the fact that this tool was initially built on top of an existing balanced scorecard (BSC) solution and has been through a series of modifications as the scope of the tool has changed over the last few years. This has resulted in a large amount of bespoke coding in the application (resulting in a significant deviation from standard SAP). These challenges often result in the following: − Unsatisfactory application response times (in the tracking and the reporting area) − The need for complex technical solutions for enhancements to the system (resulting in large development times with increased risk) − Limitations around reporting from the tool due to the fragment application back-end − A large number of support issues relating to the application (as many as 14 users issues/questions raised each month) Responsibilities  Requirement Analysis & System Design.  Application Architecture and the WebDynpro Development Component Design.  RFC model design and implementation  Creation of NWDI Tracks, WebDynpro development components and creation of JCO destinations.  Worked in all the aspects of this application starting from requirement gathering, designing the application, coding, unit testing and bug fixing.  UI Design and development in SAP WebDynpro.  Involved in the effort estimation required for the application.  Project Status Tracking and addressing concerns raised by client team.  Reviewing Technical Specifications. 3 of 7

Managers review the report on screen in SRM and approve each line item on the report by some means of a check box or radio button. Unapproved line items remain blank or un-checked. The approve/non-approve steps occur entirely inside SRM [i.e., documented in SRM]. Since the approval process occur inside SRM, the report and approval record must be retained for future reference. The record of the approval at line item level and a copy of the report itself are recalled at any time from SRM for subsequent review as necessary. The process occurs monthly, at the end of the current period. The mail is generated from the SRM system and routed to the manager’s inbox (outlook or LN). There are two buttons “APPROVE” and “REJECT”. On clicking either of the two buttons the user is redirected to a NTLM secured web page. The parameters that are transferred are NT ID, PO NO and STATUS. Now the NT id is mapped to the SAP ID. The NTLM authenticated web page calls a web service that calls the RFC to update/modify. The web application is based on Java WebDynpro, Web Services and EJB 2.1. Responsibilities  Requirement Gathering and Analysis  EJB implementation and integration with WD.  Understanding Business flows  Preparation of Technical design based on Functional Design.  Designing and development of new screens using Java WebDynpro.  Version control with DTR.  Unit Testing and Bug Fixing Company: Philip Morris International (PMI SMDL-IMDL) Duration: Dec 07 - March 08 Position: Package Solution Consultant 5 of 7
  • 6. SOMNATH PARAMANICK 13/2/2, Kalicharan Dutta Road, P.O.-Sarsuna, Kolkata-700061 Cell No : +91-09831034127 Email Id : som.iiitk@gmail.com Background SMDL The application gives to PMI employees the possibility to raise global master data code requests to the Data Management Organization (DMO) for creation, modification and deletion of SMDL global master data. The users can track any request in the system and manage their own requests. The users (requestors) of this application are potentially any PMI employee form any PMI location. The SMDL System is highly integrated with other global and local applications (SAP and Non-SAP). The integration is done either through SAP ALE or middleware technology for non-SAP Systems. SMDL uses a middleware system (EAI) to distribute global master data to non-SAP systems. IMDL IMDL application implemented in order to serve two purposes: 1. Manage third party account creation/transfer/exit: The affiliate helpdesk does not create anymore the entry/account directly in Active Directory. The helpdesk creates the entries in the IMDL through a custom developed SAP screen through PMI intranet (consultant entry/exit form). (Alternatively the manager could directly fill the consultant entry/exit sheet within the IMDL if wished by the affiliate). 2. Manage Application Access: This part of the application is for requesting roles for various PMI SAP systems. Responsibilities  Involved in the support and enhancement of the application.  Creation of the technical specifications for the new enhancements.  UI development in SAP Java WebDynpro.  Project Status Tracking and addressing concerns raised by client team.  Involved in the client coordination from offshore.  Version control with DTR.  Unit Testing and Bug Fixing Company: Philip Morris International (PMI New Horizon) Duration: Sep 06 - Nov 07 Position: Package Solution Consultant 6 of 7
  • 7. SOMNATH PARAMANICK 13/2/2, Kalicharan Dutta Road, P.O.-Sarsuna, Kolkata-700061 Cell No : +91-09831034127 Email Id : som.iiitk@gmail.com Background PMI New Horizon project is a sub module of the PMI project. This project is associated primarily with the HR related information process for the employees of PMI. This project consists of Portal in a very significant role which facilitates Managers to effectively manage their reportees, timesheet, payroll management, bank account details, etc. All these are available through self service portal which has been developed in a very efficient and effective manner These forms are used by the PMI employees to raise requests for position request, public training and several others. Public Change Requests enable managers to request changes to employee data quickly and easily, using forms in a portal environment. However various approval processes can be linked to those requests before a personnel administrator can update the data in the SAP system using predefined processing functions. These e- forms are developed using ISRs (Internal Service Request) framework. Briefly speaking ISRs make it possible for occasional users to request services in the company intranet, in an extranet, or in the Internet using request forms that do not require any special knowledge of SAP R/3. Apart from the portal development there were ESS/MSS based WebDynpro developments the details of which are given as follows: The Employee Self Service facility provides employee with a single point of access to Personal Information, which contains the Banks, Personal Data and Address. This involves developing Employee Portal for ESS/HR activities for PMI employees Responsibilities  Understanding Business flows  Requirement Analysis & System Design.  Involved in the development, support and enhancement of the application.  Creation of the technical specifications for the new enhancements.  Development in ISR Framework Technology and integration with the SAP EP.  Version control with DTR.  Project Status Tracking and addressing concerns raised by client team.  Unit Testing and Bug Fixing  Involved in the client coordination from offshore.
