M Rajaram(Raja) graduated from the University of Singapore with a Bachelor of Law (Hons) degree) and
also holds an MBA from the Maastricht School of Management. He is an Advocate and Solicitor of the
Supreme Court of Singapore and a Solicitor of England and Wales. Raja is a Fellow of the Singapore
Institute of Arbitrators and the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators. He is also an Accredited Mediator with
the Singapore Mediation Chambers (SMC) having being trained by SMC and the Harvard Law School.
Raja is now a Senior Director at Straits Law Practice LLC which was co-founded by him. He heads the
non-contentious departments in the Practice and heads the Indian Desk and the Banking Department.
Raja has been recognized for his extensive work with Indian Companies venturing abroad. He is
particularly active in acting for Lenders for infrastructure power and mining companies and
International Trading Companies for their trade finance requirements. Most of these transactions are
cross border in nature. Raja has been cited by Asia Law Profile, International Financial Law Review and
Legal 500 for his analytical ability and for the quick turnaround time for Corporate and Banking
matters.
Raja has served as Singapore’s representative to the Incoterms Committee and to the ICC Arbitration
Council for two terms. Raja has also been active in community and social service. Raja was Chairman of
the Singapore Indian Chamber of Commerce and Industry for the permitted maximum of 4 years. He had
served in various capacities in the Board of the Chamber for well over 28 years before assuming the
Chairmanship in 2008. He was also the Vice Chairman of the Singapore Business Federation, the
International Relations Committee of the Singapore Business Federation. He had served on the Malaysia-
Singapore Business Council and is also as a Council Member of ASEAN Chambers of Commerce and
Industry (ASEAN-CCI). He also served in the Steering Committee of the Singapore Indian Heritage
Centre. He is also serving as a Member of the Political Films Consultative Committee under the Ministry
for Information, Communications & Arts.
Raja sits on the Board of Directors of various companies, both listed and unlisted. He is a director in
Public listed Hiap Seng Engineering Limited and Global Palm Holdings Limited. He also serves on the
Board of directors of SBI Capital Singapore Limited and BSI (Singapore) Limited. He is also a strategic
advisor to a few start-ups and works closely with various Private Equity Funds and Banks.
Actively involved in public service, Raja is an EXCO member of the Dyslexia Association of Singapore and
a Patron of the Taman Jurong Citizens Consultative Committee. He assists in the Meet the People Session
in Taman Jurong Constituency. He is a Trustee of the Singapore Indian Development Association and was

2. an Executive Member of the Board of Trustees of the Institute of South East Asian Studies (ISEAS), a
regional think-tankbased in Singapore from 2004 to 2008, and reappointed again in 2012 as Chairman
of ISEAS Audit Committee and in addition to serving in the Board of Trustees from 2010. Raja is a Past
President of the Rotary Club of Raffles City.
Raja was conferred the PBM (Pingat Bakti Masyarakat-The Public Service Medal) in recognition of his
contributions to the Singapore business community. He is also the Honorary Consul of the Republic of
Mali in Singapore.
