The challenge that I have faced was that of choosing my peers because I had to
ensure that I involve myself with people who have a positive attitude towards
education and I had to adapt to the change of leaving high school and starting
2. studying at the University. During the course of my studies at NMMU I have learnt
that it is important to network with other students because we share a common goal
of furthering our education and becoming leaders for tomorrow. I have also learnt
that in order for me to succeed I should seek help from those who know best and
always interact with people around me.

Duties:
Ensuring that check ins / outs are done professionally.
Ensuring at critical times staff are in place and are adequately trained to deliver the
standards required.
Ensure that assets are maintained properly (computer, printers, etc.).
Ensure that all common areas and rooms are clean and tidy at all times.
Ensure that assets are maintained properly e.g. washing machines, vacuum cleaners
etc.
Ensure that rooms are properly presented with all necessary items available and in
place.
Ensure that assets are maintained properly i.e., fittings etc.
Ensuring quality and delivery of standards in F&B.
Checking on buffets, sit-down meals and braai to maintain and improve standards.
Ensure that staff are trained and understand their responsibilities.
Ensure that assets are maintained properly, i.e. stoves, fridges etc.
Where possible handle staff discipline.
Ensure that rosters and schedules that are drawn up and adhered to.
To be proactive in all training matters.
Ensure that staff are in uniform and are presentable and hygienic at all times.
Through a positive Management style and example ensure the respect and co-
operation of all staff.
For the period I have worked at Shamwari Game Reserve I have learnt that
customer service is the most vital and that having a good relationship with fellow
employees is essential for overall satisfaction of guests and that of the staff, i.e.
happy staff leads to happy clients.

My involvement in community and school programmes has taught me that I should always
take responsibility of my actions no matter how hard and that whatever I do I should give to
my community hence I joined a support group for people living with HIV/AIDS. When I was in
the Student Representative Council I have learnt that I should not be biased when making
decisions even if the decision involves risking my relationship with my peers because that
would be an unethical behaviour.

INTERESTS AND ACTIVITIES
I enjoy watching documentaries and the news because it keeps me updated on what is
happening to the world around me. I am also a member of a local choral choir and of local
netball team, I believe it is through music and sports that people practice team work and
support for one another both personally and in the work context.
