Continuous improvement
Our business is ensuring that our students
make progress and that we continue to
develop every student
To do this we must know how well we as a
school are doing and how well are students
are doing?
We have set ourselves progress targets for
each key stage
We have published our curriculum and
assessment timetables so students know
what they are learning and when and how
they will be assessed
We are reviewing our reporting
arrangements but
our reporting cycle has not changed this
year
our grade reports will not change this year
The Learning culture
•We are reinforcing a learning culture in the school
•We aim to
•Keep students and parents informed
•Published our assessments in advance so
our learners know what to expect
•Work together as one school to develop a
common assessment pathway
•Ensure our progress decisions are open and
transparent. Decisions are taken for the final
report based on published data collected by
teacher assessment throughout the year.
The Learning culture
Monitoring progress
This is recorded in our student grade reports 6 times a year in
secondary
We grade effort and academic level.
Our final annual reports are based on end of year examination
results and the 6 reports.
The Head teacher and Head of each learning phase review
progress at each report and reward effort and provide additional
support for those who are facing a challenge.
We do not use any other criteria.
The Learning culture
Year 11 and 6th
form
These years also take external examinations.
GCSE and A level
The Spanish department base their decisions on the 6 reports
and the final exam. The Head teacher is responsible for
academic results but considers the advice of the Directora
Technical and the Spanish Department
The results of the each student who wishes to gain the Spanish
terminal qualifications or Spanish University entry are sent to
the Spanish Education Department by the Head teacher
Assessment of learning at AIS
Our purpose is:
to discover how well our students have
progressed academically
and for our teachers to understand what they
need to do to enable every student to make
academic progress and achieve their potential
How we do it
We use a combination of Summative ( end of year
tests) and formative (on going check points at
their students the end of learning units)
Each subject area will decide the most effective
method of gathering data
Assessment at AIS
Summative Assessment
In order to achieve an overall picture of our
students performance teachers will draw on
The results of the 5 grade reports, End of year
examinations and the achievement of Qualifications.
Year 11 students have the opportunity to take GCSE
examinations and 6th
form take AS & A level
Students have the opportunity to study for Spanish
qualifications which are based on teacher
assessment + 4 GCSE passes and university entry
qualifications
Our students also have the opportunity to take
Spanish at GCSE and A level
Assessment at AIS
Formative Assessment
This is ongoing continuous assessment
Each subject area has produced timetables
for assessment. These describe how our
students are assessed at the end of each
learning unit. This can be used to support end
of year grades for effort and progress.
Assessment can take many forms: tests, orals,
essays, projects, photographs,
The results are used to inform the Grade
reports
Everyone! teachers, parents and students can
use the table to monitor and support progress
The Curriculum
A word on our curriculum!
We are moving forward by ensuring our curriculum
prepares our students for the international modern world.
We are trying to work together to better integrate the
British International and Spanish Curriculum
We are investigating alternative exam boards and
qualifications
We are looking to achieve clear development through
each learning phase.
Research has shown that students perform better when
they know what they are going to learn
We have published our 2012/2013 curriculum summary
for all to see.
Positive Well being
•A word on Positive well being!
•We believe our children will only do well if we consider their
emotional health and well being
•We aim to weave this into our curriculum and ensure that our
monitoring and assessment is clear and purposeful.
Behaviour and attendance is very important to us but this
information should not be used to influence how well your child
has performed academically.
Our heads of each learning phase will monitor Behaviour and
Attendance and keep you informed
•Happy children become confident and successful adults!
New technology
A word on the use of new technology!
New technology can help us by improving our communication
between parents, teachers and students.
We can inform you when your child is doing well or facing a
challenge
We aim to move the school forward by exploring:
VLE ( Virtual learning Environments)
Cloud technology
Web site development
E readers
Notebooks
Educational ‘APPs’
All of these will support our curriculum
and assessment development
