Cummins Inc. reported on its 2000 annual report. In 2000, Cummins sales were $6.6 billion with 28,000 employees. While the first half of 2000 was profitable, the second half saw a decline in key markets, resulting in an annual profit of only $8 million. The Power Generation and Filtration businesses remained strong, while the Engine Business was impacted by a 39% decline in heavy-duty truck engines in North America. Cummins outlined strategies to improve cash flow and grow profitable businesses to emerge stronger from the economic downturn, including reducing costs, improving quality, and leveraging technology partnerships.
